ok. I want a DVD player AND a next generation console.

Price of DVD Player: $200

Price of GameCube: $200

Price of Playstation 2: $300

ok. now for the math:

Playstation 2 without dvd player would be only: $100

Gamecube without dvd player: $200

ok, now for the addition:

Playstation 2 with DVD Player: $300

Gamecube with DVD Player: $400

see a difference? yep. $100 wasted if I want a DVD Player AND a Gamecube.

I'm going with the PS2.

Thank You, and have a nice day/night.

That might possibly be the stupidest reasoning I've ever seen

1st. Do you really think that the dvd player on the ps2 is a high quality one?

2nd. Your getting a ps2 because it plays dvds.....So apparently you don't care about what games either system has? rolleyes.gif

3rd. You can get a dvd player that's just as good as the one on the ps2 for 80 bucks.

Why don't ya just go ahead and get a x-box if all you care about is wether or not it plays dvds.

BTW, they're coming out with a gc with a dvd player built in...

oh yes, a few more things:

PS2: More games for it because of backwards compatibility, SO i can get games for under $30 as soon as I get a PS2.

PS2: Dual Shock Controller 2 (NO BATTERIES REQUIRED) unless u don't use the cord that is. The 900MHz means that you don't even need to be in the same room for this controller to work.

Gamecube: Wavebird-batteries required for built-in rumble feature. You can now operate your Gamecube from as far as 34 feet (10 meters) away. (kinda cheesy)

PS2: Maximum Polygon Rate: 75 Million Polygons Per Second

GC: 6 to 12 million polygons/second (Peak)

(Assuming actual game conditions with complex models, fully textured, fully lit, etc.)

GC: Clock Frequency 485 MHz

PS2: 300 MHz

GC: System Memory "Splash" 40 MB

PS2: System Memory: 32 MB Direct Rambus

GC: Clock Frequency 485 MHz

PS2: Clock Frequency: 33.8 MHz or 37.5 MHz (selectable) (not bad gc..)

GC:

ok all this is screwed cause ign didn't make it understandable, i mean, their table is screwed, it'd be easier for me to judge if i didn't have to keep going back and forth and digging through it all.

oh, and rhett:

I've been looking at game reviews, and am 99% sure i want a PS2! why? check out THESE games:

Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kassi

Star Wars: Dark Forces

Star Wars: Episode I: Jedi Power Battles

Star Wars: Demolition

Star Wars: Star Fighter

Star Wars: Super Bombad Racing

Star Wars: Episode I: Racers Revenge

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

The only ones i wouldn't get are the rebel assault ones and tpm, cause i have rebel assault 1 and tpm, rebel assault isn't all that great and i heard rebel assault 2 sucked.

Starfighter got good reviews

really? give me the link, it sounds interesting. biggrin.gif

btw, weren't u excited about jedi outcast once? tongue.gif

ah yes, i cannot forget this other reason why i want it:

More games for it because of backwards compatibility, SO i can get games for under $30 as soon as I get a PS2.

Dual Shock Controller 2 (NO BATTERIES REQUIRED)

I do not want a PS1 though, cause jedi outcast and knights of the old republic will not run on it.

Ah, the great debate... which is better, PS2 or GCN... well here is how I figure it... Screw the prices and screw the system stats. What matters is the games, I don't really look for the graphics and sound myself. I look for the gameplay. Will I enjoy playing the games they have? Will the controller be to my liking? Will the games be ones that I will play for years to come? These are the questions I ask myself when purchasing a game. I rarely buy a game just for the hell of it. And I never buy a system just for the hell of it. Personally I'm getting both, the PS2 is great value, yes because it can play DVD movies, but I'm also in it for GT3 and Starfighter, I've played both games and I like them both very much. The GCN, while not as cost effective has an impressive line up of games that I am looking foward to. I will NEVER EVER buy a X-Box. No matter what they will bring out I will never buy it! If Microsoft can prove to me that they will play fair in the gaming market and release games that I think are worth a look at then I may consider them. But for now I say Microsoft can get lost...

This is my opinion... I see these things "from a certain point of view" biggrin.gif hehe

last time I checked, you buy a gaming console to play games, not DVD's.

and the PS2 DVD player isnt that great. the PS2 also has problems reading some discs (my friend has one).

but if you want PS2 more than the Gamecube, I for damn sure respect your decision.

but on the other hand, I think you need to get your facts straight. obviously you dont know much about console hardware or you'd realize that stats dont always mean everything.

the Gamecube IS technically superior to the Playstation 2 in every way. I dont want to start telling you why since it would take so long.

so to everyone: the Gamecube is technically superior to the PS2. do you disagree? then say so, and I will quickly respond with how and why what I say is true. I dont want to waste my time getting into a tech discussion if no one disagrees with me. so i'm waiting for someone to disagree first.

just to clarify, if you say the PS2 is better than the Gamecube, thats fine. better games than the Gamecube? also fine. in fact you can say just about anything like that cuz its your OPINION and I respect that. but u cant try to compare the stats and just use fake polygon numbers to judge (btw, polygon counts isnt a good way to compare the power of the system anyway, even if Sony's polygon counts WERE true, which they arent).

anyway, yeah. if you think the PS2 is superior to the Cube as far as technical prowess goes, just say so here and i'll set ya straight. wink.gif

ok, tell me why, do we build castles in the sky, oh tell me why, do we build castles way up high...ok

If nintendo doesn't tell me why Gamecube is better than PS2 by the end of the week, I'll make you tell me. hehehe.

Although i've decided against getting a console, as I can max my computer out for a little over $300.

I know Rogue Leader is going to be ported to PC. Starfighter is! man that game looks awesome for pc-SPECIAL EDITION!!!!

i didnt say Gamecube was BETTER than PS2. all I said is that it is technically more powerful.

but last time I checked, hardware doesnt sell, on the other hand, games do. which is probably why the PS2 is doing so well, cuz of all the games it has.

and I find it hilarious how you "know" that it will be ported to the PC even though you didn't read my post at gamefaqs, and even though you dont know jack about hte Gamecube's hardware. you're basically saying that anything achieved on the Cube's hardware can be done on a master PC set up. that is SO not true. take a look at the Gamecube's 1T-SRAM, embedded right on to the Flipper. that is something that has NEVER BEEN DONE ON HARDWARE BEFORE. it is totally unseen in the world of hardware. even the Xbox suffers from the same PC bottlenecks of old, you have to waste several clock cycles just waiting for info to reach the graphics chip from RAM. this is what causes poor framerates. i'm not dissing the Xbox i'm just stating fact. personally I think the Xbox is very powerful.

but anyway the Xbox isnt the point. you're saying you KNOW RL will be ported to the PC even though both F5 and Lucasarts say that it wont, and even though you fail to realize what exactly you're saying or implying. if you open your eyes a bit you'd see that RL on PC is much more unlikely than you think.

*gets out his shadows of the empire box with 'only for nintendo' in the top right corner and stares at it*. ok, i see your point. tongue.gif

Looks like I'll be missing out on a good game if I do not buy a gamecube. Oh well, I'll use my smart strategy, which has served me EXTREMELY well, and wait 1-2 years or until Gamecube mercifully lowers its price to $150 (that's how much i got my n64), and Rogue Leader drops to $40 (i've learned that no matter how old a game is, if it's player's choice).

This strategy has served me in this way:

I got TPM for $20 instead of $30+

I got Rogue Squadron 3D for $20 instead of $30+

I got Elite Force for $15 (preowned) instead of $30+

I got Total Annihilation for around $15 instead of $30+

I got Force Commander AND Rebellion for $40, which was a extremely good deal, since force commander just came out when i got it, and rebellion i REALLY REALLY REEEAAALLLYY wanted.

I got Body Harvest for $7 instead of $20

I got Droid Works for $20 instead of $45+

I got Red Alert for $10 instead of $20+

I got Hybrid Heaven for $13 instead of $30+

I got Super Mario 64 for $12 instead of $40+

I got Star Fox 64 for $20 instead of $40+

see the resembence? I'm all for 50% off. biggrin.gif

I only pay $30 if I have a gut feeling that I will say it was worth it in 2 years.

Jedi Knight and Mots i got for $40+ and that was worth it without me knowing that i could edit it. biggrin.gif

Games i've been ripped off on:

Star Wars Racer: I spent $50 on a walmarts sale thing, it was originally $63, but then a month later, Star Wars Racer=$10!!!!! BRAND NEW!!!!!!!!! I'm getting my revenge tho by having someone burn me a copy. mwahahaha

Rogue Squadron, that was almost a rip off, i got it for $50, but it's still one of my favorite games, and it brought me here and got me a ton of friends.

ok i'm done..*thinks to himself, why did i have to finish off the mountain dew-now!!!*

Ok ok blah blah blah about the hardware of the GCN and the PSX2, which one has quality RPGs? That's all I really care about...I loved all of the sega systems no end, but they didn't have hardly any RPGs, while nintendo has had many great RPGs. But I've never owned a PSX and I've only seen 2 or 3 of their games (I'm from a poor family, I try not to look at things that'll make me sad lol) so does PSX 1 or 2 have any really good RPGs?

if you get a ps2, you can play all the psx rpg games. but i think psx currently has more rpgs than ps2. there's quite a few:

parasite eve 1&2

resident evil series

silent hill

final fantasy

i don't know any others, i've played parasite eve, it's a pretty cool game, silent hill will make u run outside screaming if you're home alone at night and playing it. (it's got a very spooky darn atmosphere to it).
