Well im just waiting for somebody to tell me the release date of Total Annihilation 2! If Total Annihilation was the greatest most ground-breaking RTS of all time; then im wondering where is the sequel...obviously anyone in their right mind would make one to capitalize ont he popularity. I also keep lookin around trying to find games that liscense the TA engine but i cant find any... You know the first Quake was a very mod-able game too... people would mod the **** out of that game with anyting you could imagine...Shrak, Braney the purple dinosaur, WW2, and like a zillion others but i ask woud anybody choose to play Quake 1 over Unreal? Or half-life? Or Red Faction? Mod-ability doesnt make a game. Also first he says lucasarts woulda ran into too many problems trying to do this with TA, then he says lots of people do this own there own...so some joe at his home can accomplish this but a whole design team cant? And he says they didnt want to waste a lot of time and they wanted an engine that was fast an easy? I dont think joe shmoe sitting at home has a whole year to sit down and make a good star wars mod of TA, and if you look at some of Greg Knight's concept sketches on the LA homepage you'll see that some of the artwork is dated december of last year meaning they began development of this around a year ago...you tellign me a whole design team of pro's couldnt make a cool TA mod in a year's time? Maybe its they didnt want to!! Oh yeah, its a good thing you pulled out of this conversation cuz you were gettin cornered real fast!

Total Annihilation was announced, however. After cavedog was bought out, the company who bought them out was bought out by GT. GT was then bought out by Infogrames. Who then closed Cavedog just a month after the announcement of TA2. This argument goes back to StarCraft vs TA. It's just a no win situation. This thread should probably just be closed...

Great games live on. I believe shadowbane's company went under but another company saw the potential and picked it up and resumed develpoment...that has happened to a couple other games so why not this one?

Yes, as Sharky said, TA2 was slated for a 2002/2003 release, but infogrames bought out cavedog, and the company was dissolved, destroying much hope for an official TA2.

Note that this was all due to infrogrames, not the games fault. I'm sure closing down cavedog was a stupid move by infrgrames, and had they not closed it down, they would ahve made lots of money out of TA2.

Now, WC_Heavyarms, the reason those screenshots look bad is because the units pictured there are still in development. Had you have read the whole post, you would know this. That is the problem, I bet phantommenace has only read 1% of all of the posts by us. Thus, he keeps on spouting his stupid crap, and is moronic rhetoric, when it has already been answered by us in other posts before he even asked the question!!!

Oh, and there are two seperate 3rd party plans for the production of an unofficial TA2, at http://www.tauniverse.com/pyroclastic and http://www.annihilation-studios.com

A third, more official TA2 is being planned by the producer of TA, Chris Taylor. He will, as his next game, create an RTS very closely related TA, however it will not be called TA2.

On other TA related news Annihilation Studios are making a Total Annihilation movie, along with their TA2 plans. Yes, a full length Total Annihilation Movie, which will be rendered in 3d.

There is only one official mod for TA, and that is Kingdoms, which was a real flop, and was not a very good game.

There are countless 3rd party mods, so many, that a new program had to be created to help people manage them.

There are about 8 new races, each with their own units, build trees and styles. Some even introduce a new look too the usual game window.

There are countless new units, numbering well in the thousands, though not all of them are good. There are just as many maps, though only about 200-300 are really good. try http://www.planetannihilation.com/tamec for a taste of TA's maps.

There are actual mods, which modify gameplay, from Uberhack, which tries to balance the game, and TA:Thunderball, and XTA, which go for speed type playing.

Then there are all the TC's. These range from SWTA and SWTA: WIS, to Dark Suns, TA:Final Frontiers, TA: WWII, TA: WWIII, TA: Dune and TA: Red Alert, among others.

Then there is TA:CQ, or Total Annihilation: Close Quarters, which is an FPS game that is alot like Mech Warrior, only you are in TA units, and set in TA scale battles.

There are also programs like TA Hook, which allows people to program in some automated sequences to save them time, such as immediately putting in the build que as soon as you build a plant. There is the TA Demo Recorder, which not only allows you to have new key stroke commands in multiplayer, as well as giving you a blackboard option, that lets you communicate with your allies in a new way by letting you draw plans on the battle field (which is very usefull; you draw an arrow pointing up into a base, and write here, and tell them to send a decoy assault), but it also records the games, and lets you watch the games agian later by yourself (or watch it together over the internet with someone else), which lets you analyse your battle, and see where you went wrong.

So, phantommenace, don't talk to me about TA not being modable, and noone doing anything for it.

Also first he says lucasarts woulda ran into too many problems trying to do this with TA, then he says lots of people do this own there own...so some joe at his home can accomplish this but a whole design team cant?

I didn't mean problems in the production, I meant problems in time restraints, and problems financially. so 'some joe' actually knows how to mod TA already, and is working on a project that takes his skills to the limits, whereas the producers of SWGB have no idea how to mod TA, and the time taken to learn would be time taken away from its release, and might compromise that lucrative pre-Christmas release.

Oh, and SWTA has been in production for three years, although at one point, about 1.5 years ago, they scrapped almost everything and started again.

Plus, these guys are already familiar with the unit modeling process for units, and the scripting processes that define how they behave in game, so I don't think you know what you are talking about in terms of time.

Of course, you would have known all of this Had you read the entire post properly

EDIT: Dammit, I always screw up the links :\

I think we are really insulting some of th game designers at lucasarts here....Gary Gaber says he's been in games since the mid 80's. So this guy is saying that making a TA Star wars mod would be too difficult to sqeeuze in around a year as oppose to using the genie engine? So the programmers at lucasarts are too dumb to get in a TA mod before christmas if they had around a year's time? Once again as you can see he failed to argue on this point and decided to dance around with the other point i made about if joe shmoe can do it why cant lucasarts. This guy is giving me a headache with his exxagerated posts that are gettin to be borderline spam! Just cuz you diggin up some facts and figures from some cult following of TA doesnt magnify that games greatness! The Gaming Industry is movign right along full steam and i think TA was left standing at the terminal...there's a whole ton of cool games coming up and none of them liscense out hte TA engine! My closing question is this...who cares about TA? Is your arguments gonna dig that game up..prolly not? ARe you gonna change my mind? No! Will Lucasarts use te TA engine in any future RTS game projects? NO! The game has been made, nothing you can do about it! All the little dead news tidbits about TA can do nothing to change it! You dont want to see the truth that it wasnt because lucasarts lakedt he time or the skill to use the TA engine, they just didnt want to use it! Good game engines get liscenced out, for some reason or another...whether its cuz they are cheesy and easy to use or they rock...either or but they DO GET USED! That says something! And game engines tha suck get forgoten about! Like TA! Bottom Line...like it or not!

My last post was my closing statements.

Unless you haven't realised, you have exhausted the patience of the only person willing to actually listen to you. Yes. Thats right.

Everyone is now ignoring you. Flu warned me that you were too dumb to realise you were wrong. I thought I could still have a decent conversation with you.

I was wrong. You once again have seen right by all of my points.

Oh well, it seems you've lost the last person who would actually listen to your pathetic babble. What a shame. Now your topic can slide down to where it belongs. Noone wants this topic. It was a try hard topic that was living off the exhaust of a topic of the same name, only it was created for true discussion. Your topic has no merit what so ever.

[evil woman from weakest link]

good bye.

I never said I was completely without blame, but I am atleast pleased that I got my message across. It may not have gotten through to phantommenace, but hey, there are some intelligent people out there that have actually had their minds about TA changed. Its a shame that there are still people like PhantomMenace out there, who refuse to listen to facts, and detailed infomation, and instead of retorting with an intelligent comeback, all they can come up with against a detailed post is

Also looks like that guy went through a lot of trouble to sound intelligent which is a sure fire indicator that he's an idiot!

Oh well.

why is there no TA sequal?

basically cos IG own the rights and have no intention of making it

now i know several people who are trying to buy the rights and shall post links to their site wheni get permision from them.

imo i group of 3rd party developers, could of made GB better than it was.

AoK might be a good game, but how could the dev crew on GB be so stupid to use that engine.
