Jay the Jester
A couple problems and suggestions that I have thought of while playing the game. 1. Scenario editor needs more characters, a more comprohensive triggering system (Maybe a user guide), and over all more options for constructing cenarios (Most items only exist in the editor because the campaighne have them for one game.) sugestion: Have an editor that can easily CREATE and EDIT items, and have a guide to triggers. Also add a pluthra of options for new enviroments such as stair casses, and more temple artifacts. 2. The invincible fighter delema. Most gruops call them this because their are only two ways to shoot an aircraft down. We soon find out that what we see in movies dosn't have the same abilities in the game. AT-AT's shot at snowspeeders and turrets fired at X-wings on the Deathstar. I don't like the floating, I like Command and Conquers launching. Sugestion: I know it's to late to rebuild the system, but I would have had a system ussing landed, attacking and en-route phases. This would open up combat and make it feel more real. It would also add to the stratagy of bombing airbases, and launching attacks. 3. Add more Scenarios, and Campeigns!!! If there is an expantion comming I'll defenitly get it, because I've finished the campaignes and am in withdrawls for more. Suggestion: PLEASE DO AN EXPANTION WITH A HOLE LOT OF CAMPAIGNS, AND A TON NEW EDITOR OPTIONS AND OBJECTS. other than aircraft, and editors I don't have much againts this game. It's fun, interactive, and highly strategic.
Gaming Nut
the fighter thing isn't bad as in some games(starcraft never explain how all the unit just hover. It can be explained in SW Repluser lift engines can move a craft foward but can aslo allow it hover still looks dumb but what you gonna do. The engine didn't even include air craft at frist so the fact their their at all should be apprcated. One way to make them seem more real would be to have them fly in circles banking as they did when staionary and to act as they do now when their moving about. It's when you go into battle that it get's hard. One way to to do it maybe and I'm not sure you could disable the code that keeps unit form piling up on one another. Since planes can fly at diffrent allitudes if this done you could have plane attack in sweeping passes fly head on to the target friing at it since it only takes like 2 shot to kill another fighter they would likly kill him on the frist pass. Or fly right through him simultung flyinhg past above or below him if it didn't kill him in it's frist pass it would bank around to attack again but this is VERY unlikely. I don't like the air base idea these thing and can fly steller distancntes they don't really need an air bastte expect to sleep (they can eat in the ship). Also the death stars battiers where firing but wheren't downing any of the fighter. That was it's weakness a defence geared toward slow moving captail ships. A turret tuned to fire on lumbering mechs and slow moving troopers. Will have prolems with a weaving fast moving fighter maybe they should have some AA abilte but limted and very incuaite. I can't comoment I never used the editor but more units to play with on custoi maps would be cool their are any number of guy from the books that could inculded. SharkBoy007
If LucasArts is looking for ideas for an expansion pack (please, PLEASE make them, I will buy them!), how about one that deals with the events in the New Jedi Order books, with the Yuuzan Vong. Also, more even scenarios and characters and items. You could even include generic buildings and things that aren't part of the 6 civilizations, so you could create cities for races that we make up. Or at least a way to design them. And while I'm happy there are air units, please look at the code to see if anything can be done about them just sitting there. That's all I can think of. Thanks. Chessack
Well, I tend to like air power and use it quite effectively most of the time, so I am biased but... I completely disagree that they should make more units able to shoot down air units. That's where part of the strategy comes in. You can't just build an army of mechs and have them be invulnerable. You need to protect your AT-ATs with some AA troops and AA mobiles. And as for turrets shooting down Xwings -- what do you think AA turrets are for? Perhaps you don't like that they shoot missiles instead of lasers.. but that's really a minor quibble. I have said it before and I will say it again. The game needs to be playable, first and foremost, before it worries about being "themely" for Star Wars. The AT-ATs are already darn powerful as it is. Making them able to knock fighters and bombers out of the sky would make the Empire player near-invincible. As it is, the game creators have acheived a near-perfect balance, in my opinion. I've won, and lost, with every civ... each civ has its weak points. Each cool, powerful unit (Jedi, Air units, mechs) has a deadly counter (bounty hunters, AA, mech destroyers). I think destroying that game balance, just because "that's how it worked in the movies," is a terrible idea, and I encourage them not to do it.
