OOM-9 Campaign - Part 2 - Advice, please!

Howdy...

 

I am playing the OOM-9 campaign, currently part 2 ("Behind the Lines") and I need some advice on the best way to kick Naboo butt.

 

I have completed all mission objectives, up until attacking the base in the north. When I mobolize forces to attack the north, it seems that the Trade Federation forces are inadequate to battle the Naboo airforce, mechs and infantry. I have tried attacking the northern base from the north-west passage (over the marsh) and from the north-east passage (the road that forks north-west and due north).

 

Is there a better way to crush the Naboo base?

The mission is the one that starts with the retrieval of the "droid control program". After that you must:

 

- destroy the airbase to the west

- destroy the base to the north (mechs, troopers, fighters & bombers)

 

At first, I made the assumption that I could finish the mission with only the units provided. Man, was I wrong! I tried diversion tactics, and attacking the base on two fronts simultaneously -- but no dice.

 

Anyway... I decided to hunker down and milk the resources. After using "standard game" ideology (e.g. building, fortifying, building some more, researching)... it seems I have the Naboo running for cover.

 

If anyone has tips or insight, lay it on! I'd like to see other ways I can finish this mission, aside from "the usual way".

I completed that section of the campain today and didn't have to destroy any base to the west. But I just built up a base, provided a few defenses, even though it turned out the only attacks were from one or two starfighters. I then built a group of infantry and anti-air infantry, some tanks, some destroyer droids, a few heavy artillary mechs, and some anti air mechs. By keeping all of these units together, and having them all on stand ground stance, they all protected each other, and I lost few droids. I attacked by the path leading north with the enemy base on the left, attacked the turrets with heavy artillary, defended defending droids with my droids troopers and tanks, and defended air units with the anti-airs.:bdroid2:

Oh man! I did the same thing as a lot of you guys at first and sent the troops in for an attack...and then had to send OOM-9 running before he got killed!:) The tactic I found that worked well was to build the base and defenses...esspecialy anti-air. Harvest the carbon from the trees West of your base and go through that hole to attack the smaller bases(airbase) there. Rebuild the army and push to the objective.

build a base then use the battle droids and build heavy artillery and pummels 5-10 of each use the droid army to protect them use control groups ctrl-1 etc. to protect the artillery use the cannon to destroy the turrets have a squad that is 10-15 dd's + 5 or so strike mechs use this to annihilate whatever comes after you when the cannon opens up destroy 2 of the turrets at the north entrance the one with the fork then march in order everything to kill the command center if you don't mind cheating it helps to use forcesight and forceexplore to find out what you are up against use that info to build your army

Make sure you keep your cannon alive through the first part. Try to keep your initial forces out of the range of turrets when going for the droid control program and shell them from range with the cannon. Your destroyer droids should make short work of the troopers and strike mechs. Set them to "Stand Ground" so they don't go charging after enemies and get blasted by turrets. Oh yeah, make sure the Nemoidian guy is safe inside OOM-9's tank.

 

When you get back to the base, put the nemoidian guy in the command center. The first thing you want to do is clear a path through the trees to the northwest which you can do with the cannon, while you do that start making workers and gathering resources and building stuff like you would for any base. Once you've cleared a path, send all your forces for a pre-emptive strike on the Harte Secur Airbase, otherwise you will be overwhelmed with a flood of air power. The city itself isn't as aggressive and will wait for you to come to them. When you destroy the airbase, leave the spaceport alive because you can get a LOT of nova from trading with it (each trip around for a cargo hovercraft is worth 100 nova!)

 

Once that's done, just build to tech 3, research all the upgrades, and build a bunch of Pummels, Artillery, Mech Destroyers, and Destoryer Droids and go to town. Also include some anti-air cause they do have some planes. Make em come out to you, once you've pasted them, send the pummels, mounted troops and such in to tear down the turrets and fortress, and you've got it won.

 

They key is knocking out the airbase early though. Once you get that program, your first priority is that, and that nice standing army (along with your initial troops is just the thing to do it so you can build your tech in peace.

Destroyer droids!!!!!

 

Build up a base, and keep it well defended against air ( I had to restart several times from devistating air assults.) and start replacing the droids troopers with DD's, Mech destroyers, and Ani-Air.

 

Bring in about 3 Cannons to get there attention and some early big damage. This will get there attention. Mech destroyers to mechs and heavy weapons, DD's to troops. Soon the Air force will come in. Now you have to bring in the AA closer to battle. heres the key. The oppenent will send alot of there forces to get rid of them dang AA, thats when you start wiping them out. If you do it right you can get there strike force pinned on two sides, and can hopefully wipe out there air, and most of there ground. Now is your chance to start hammering them with your cannons and DD's. :) have fun
