Chanke4252
I have a few questions for you sir or madam (whoever reads this). Ive been wanting and wondering about a few things. I know how to install and take out cards etc etc and exchange parts of my computer in and out, but i was wondering about a few more advanced things. Ive been thinking about getting a second hard drive for games and other not-important stuff. Anyway, I was wondering what exactly I would have to do in the process and what kind of hard drive i should get. I want to get a 40-60gb one but what specific models and makes are decent? Secondly, I was wondering what the point is of getting a second monitor with only 1 tower thing whatever its called. I just want to so i can turn my room into this big technical marvel with robot monkeys and the such, and i think that dual monitors are the first step. Can you use two mouses on dual monitors and have multiple things running, one on each monitor. please explain. Also am i correct in thinking that i need to get another graphics card to do this? Lastly, I was also wondering about overclocking and how exactly it is accomplished. I know i have to get more fans but how exactly do i check system tempature and actually overclock the cards. Maybe someone can link a site that explains this in retarted man's english.

Guest Krayt Tion
Installing PCI or AGP cards (pretty much any expansion cards) is a snap these days. Notches on the bottom of the card line up with corresponding notch slots on the motherboard. It should be impossible to seat a PCI card in an AGP slot without breaking something. If you want to put in a new card, just line up the bottom ridge of notches on the card with the holes for it on your mobo and push it gently but firmly into place (with your computer turned off please!). If the card is in place the rear of it (the silver band) should also line up with a space on the back of your Case (this is one of the places you stick things into your computer on the back of it). Turn on your computer and if you are running Windows 95 or later it should detect it your new card automatically as it starts! It will ask you for drivers so it can communicate with your newly installed card- just pop in the CD or floppy that came your new card, the drivers should be in there. If for any reason this is not the case see if Windows can find one for your new device (you'll need your Windows installation CD for this). The other stuff takes a bit more explaining, so I'll save that for another time.
Chanke4252
ok, thanks i didnt know that the slot types were pretty much the same. But i still need to know the specifics of dual hard drives since i will be doing that in the next few weeks. ill probably figure it out like i do everything else but its always nice to have someone explain it to you in retarded man english. Guest Krayt Tion
Well let's be clear. All your PCI slots (should be more of these than any other type on your mobo) are all the same. The AGP slot is smaller and usually black. Ram slots are longer than either of those, a whole different animal.
Chanke4252
I guess what I mean is i understand all that about PCI and AGP slots and RAM. Ive installed things in all of those before without problems. But do other hard drives plug into one of those slots? The one i have in there now has its own slot inside my computer with the standard cable attachments, is this unusual or something because its been in all of the other computers ive had before. Guest Krayt Tion
Your IDE hard drive doesn't plug right into your motherboard like PCI or AGP cards, it is instead connected to the IDE Controller slot on your mobo via a ribbon cable. This ribbon cable has two connectors on it, one of which is already in use by your primary hard drive. If you were to add a second hard drive it would be best to attach it to the second connector which is on the same ribbon cable that your current hard drive is using. You would designate one drive as master or the other as slave that way. Your average mobo has one other IDE controller just about the same as the first one I described above, allowing two more HD drives, or other IDE devices if you prefer. I'm assuming you don't have scsi hard drive that requires either a seperate PCI card attachment or a built-in scsi controller on the mobo. Can't talk any more of this, got to get in a game of DoD now.
