dev-Zach
"As far as the Zone is concerned: The Zone was a cesspool of garbage. Given that JK2 will be supported by Gamespy, I doubt you will find anyone there, except for newbies and power-abusive sysops. Most of the clans, to my knowledge, will be in IRC." This is the first sensible post I've seen relating to the zone, and I agree 100%. The zone will only be filled with clueless players/clans who don't know what IRC and server browsers are. Respected and competative clans will match-make and idle on IRC. ETG is looking to be the server of choice so far...
JaG|Kaiser
Thanks man. I appreciate the compliment. In my opinion, it is very important that we give the community a place to meet outside of the Zone, and I think that enterthegame (etg) is the logical step. We need to make sure that people are aware that this server is available. Most importantly, people should be made aware of the freedoms associated with it. Gamespy will help us greatly in that we will be able to find dedicated servers through their service. What I'd like to do, eventually, is get SuperIP support through IRC. This is a program that would allow people to join games directly from IRC, thereby bypassing the need for Gamespy. But, that will have to wait until the game comes out. I'll have to talk with Cowboy about it.
[TE]BiocYte[OO]
What about GSA?? Will it be supported?? If it is it is also a good place the chat and join games. We use IRC to meet clan wise but use GSA to join games.
JaG|Kaiser
GSA=Gamespy Arcade? If this is right, then I hear that JK2 will be supported.
Alchemist
You also have to realize that there are other programs out here, when i was playing q3 i used a thing called the all-seeing eye, and its simple, basic, and alot easier then gamespy, and its on constant updates for games n servers, i suggest you all look for it. JaG|Kaiser
I've only heard of ASE over the past couple of days. I'll give it a shot tonight. Do you know if it will support JK2?
SirDogmeat
ASE will probably support it, just my speculation of course, but it supports a lot of newer games like MoHaa and C+C renegade, so i dont see any reason why they wouldnt....
DSettahr
When I just want to play and don't care where, I've found nothing beats the quickness and efficiency of the in game browser. However, when looking for a specific player or game, I prefer ASE. ASE is a lot quicker and more efficient than GSA.
JaG|Kaiser
I'll definitely check this out. Old gamespy used to be great, but now it is all bloated. I'll give ASE a shot. Is it http://www.allseeingeye.com ?

Necro
i'd say a better place to meet is gamesnet along with the #jediknight channel D:
pr0s
yeah id say that ASE would be the way to go along with mIRC. ASE gives an actual number for pings instead of a coloured bar and you can use filters and stuff. On the other hand, GSA has a chat facility and is easy to set up in. I guess see how it turns out. Teamwarfare and CWN, two of the organizations setting competitive leagues and ladders are are on etg. TsN, a large shoutcasting station, is on etg. Need I go on? It would only make logical sense that the community have a general meeting place on etg. That place is #nar.
