Demo!?!?!

Lucasarts has been very good about putting our demos and so has Raven. Can we expect a demo before release? If so I would love to have a one level MP demo, so it doesn't give us any SP until the release. This would be great, I just can't wait to try out Raven's lightsaber.

the purpose of a demo is to show off the best things of a game, so that won't happen Indy

Most of the people here say there won't be demo before the game release, but I still think we can see the demo before the 29...

I'd love to have a demo before the game, even if it's just one multiplayer level. RtcW's Multiplayer Test was pretty fun, minus the lag. If they could just release one level... man. Realistically though, I wouldn't expect them to release a demo in the next 15 days, which is when it comes out. I wouldn't count on it. But now this one thing remains, above all.

Time.

If we can just hold out another few days, the game will be ours, and our hype and dreams will be fulfilled. Oh, the waiting is bliss. :atat:

I am also thinkning it will be unlikely for a demo to be released before the game hits shleves. If they were to release a demo, I would have thought they would have released it early March, about a month away from release. Since it is only a little more then two weeks away, it is very unlikely. If they did release a demo I would hope it would be just a bot match with no lightsaber. I agree with the people who want to wait for the sp to get their lightsaber, so I will wait till then to do bot matches/mp (as hard as that sounds). Hope it won't take to long to get it, 5 levels I believe. Hope this helps ^_^.

Picked up a copy of UK PC Gamer this morning. Not only were there some adverts for JK2 but on the back cover it said that there would be a demo for JK2 on the disc next month.

Make of that what you will!

Dragon (currently tracking down the veracity of that claim!)

too true and I don't think anyone's still taken them to task for their review of a beta of the game (which implied that there were only about four types of badguy from what I remember.)

Anyway, I'm on the case about the PCG demo and will let you all know about the reply I get (if any!) Admittedly, I should hopefully be in proud possession of a full version of JO by then so I'm not going to worry too much.

I still think more companies should follow Valve's example and release a demo that is a totally unrelated level to the actual game. HL:Uplink was excellent, IMO.

I agree BlackDragon.

I have no problem with magazines or websites reviewing betas of games, but when they do I expect them to label it a "Preview" and not a full fledged "Review." I expect them to make it clear this isn't the final version IN THE ARTICLE and therefore to reserve some judgement on certain incomplete features. And it would be sheer laziness on the part of the source to review a beta, but not the full version when it comes out. I mean obtaining a beta is one thing, that not everyone can do, but anybody with 50 bucks can walk into a game store and get a copy to write about.

As far as Demos go, it was interesting to head over to GameFaqs.com and I found that like at these forums, several people posted stuff like:

Why do you care about a demo? Just get the full game when it comes out!

To which somebody explained the purposes of having a demo in the first place... to make it easier for people to decide if they really want the game by getting a sampling of the GAMEPLAY and being able to test how it runs on their system, and how it helps promote the game. It seems like common sense that somebody might want to try something before they blow $50 or so on it. After all, every hyped game doesn't end up being fun. But oh well... ; )

All too true. I *know* I'm going to end up buying JO - that's a given! (But then I must be the only person in history to own Supremacy/Rebellion too!)

But the only reason I own Baldur's Gate, Swat3 and Carmageddon (and don't own RtCW and others) is because I played the demo. (Having said that, I own Quake because of the mods that were available - I hated the demo and the FP game!)

Dragon - blabbering his way to his 50th post! Woohoo!

Damn! I must get a life!
