Well, we originally where going for a 6 man free for all, and well 2 guys didn't even make it to the game and failed to connect. Leaving us with 4.

 

Just as we were starting, the 4th guy has some sort of problem and drops.

 

So its 3 of us, Free For All style.

 

One of the guys was completely new (Empire), and the other 2 of us (Other guy was Rebels) where pretty evenly matched.

 

I have been waiting to play the Feds for quite a while now and that's who I chose.

 

We basically built up for about 20 minutes and I sent out 5 troops into the Rebel base and a couple regular destroyer droids into the Empires base to cause a little havok :)

 

The 5 troopers where crushed pretty quickly by turrents, and my destoryers took out several workers before they were cut down from the air.

 

The Rebel player build TONS of air...and let me tell you, AIR is very effective at tech level 4, fully upgraded. The shields give them about twice the life and he took down a fortress, aa, power core and shileds with his air force (about 20 x/y wings and about 4-5 airspeeders).

 

I send in heavy assault mechs and strike mechs which where destroyed...they had anti air escorts...but those where pretty ineffective.

 

The heavy assault mechs I was disappointed with because it didn't take a whole lot to take out 3-4 of them fully upgraded...some of it probablly had to do with the airspeeders bonus but they didn't even get shots off before being destroyed.

 

Well, everything I through at the Rebels was destroyed quickly by his air force (i left the imp guy alone because the scores where 10k me 10k rebs 3k imps and he was learning the game).

 

So, I decided to try out these Advanced Cruisers....ahhhh yeah, that was the ticket.

 

I sent a few up there and they took out a few buildings before being destroyed by fighters and since this was the only thing that had any success agains the rebels I decided to build up a huge fleet.

 

I had about 20-25 cruisers and 10-15 anti air.

 

Well This time, the airforce was outmatched.

 

I destroyed the rebels entire base, and let me tell you shields did nothing with 25 cruisers pummelling the base with artillery. At first I hit power cores...but the firepower was so intense I just started targeting the shield gens. The cruisers leveled the entire base.

 

I created a few fighters and assault mechs to clean up before sailing around the island to the Imperials to win the game with the same techniques (Cruiser bombardment, mop up crew of strike mechs/destroyer droids).

 

Luckily I wasn't challenged at sea by either two of my opponents or it wouldn't have been near that easy to win.

 

Also the map was an island so I could sail completely around it to destroy their bases :evil1:

 

 

Review:

Assault Mechs (biggest disappointment) Destroyed way too easy. Empire team never built at ats, but my TF heavy assault vehicles weren't a problem for the rebels.

 

Advanced Destroyer Droids - Very Effective against anything on ground, took out jedi, bountyhunters, troops, workers with no problems and where outnumbered. Quickly destroyed by strike mechs and air craft.

 

Prefab-less Civ: This was great not worrying about building houses.

 

Carbon Penalty: Didn't really notice it...but we played with High resources.

 

Cruisers: Heh, these things won the game for me so I'll probably be using them again if there's enough water.

 

AntiAir: Not as effective as in the demo, even after aa 3rd upgrade which helped...but rebel shielded ships where MUCH better at tech 4 and much more apt to destroy vehicles/troops...still not as effective on buildings, but like I said he did take out an aa tower, fortress, power core, and shields with only air attacks.

 

Cannons: Very effective, but mine where destroyed easily. I need to practice up on the use of these.

Hi guys what a great site i have the demo but when is galactic battlegrounds out in the u.k?

 

some places say 16th others say 23rd!

Yeah both civs have great mechs but the empires are better all around. The only reason I thiknis because the mechs for imperials are 5% less. It doesn't sound like much but since the Assualt mechs expensive to build, the 5% will make the empire be able to build more of them at a discount. Count in the no trading fee forom the spaceport and there you have it.

It sounds like your Assault Mechs failed because they went up against an air force. Mechs are -supposed- to be whooped horribly into submission by air units. Nuff' said.

 

Up against a ground force, I would suspect your mechs would fair much better.

 

It's like pitting a bunch of archers against a bunch of Skirmishers in AOK. Skirmishers win.

 

And DON'T SPLIT YOUR FORCES AGAINST DIFFERENT OPPONENTS! for sakes. Not if you want to win your battles or you know you're going to whoop both your opponents. It's never a good idea.

I didn't necessarily match them up one on one with the air force...I had accompaning AntiAir with them that were destroyed by the airforce.

 

If you played the demo, one AA could take out 10 aircraft with no problem....things are waaaaaaaaaayy different in the full version.

 

And it wasn't much of a risk to split forces, like I said the imperial guy was very new to the game and never even made it to tech level 4...(2 hour+ game)

 

I just sent a few destroyers in to give him a little action :)

 

My main offensive was against the Rebel player.
