Hoth
Having seen the trailers so far I'd have to say that any protracted melee fighting between light sabres like what we saw in Phantom Menace seems to be a fantasy. JO looks a bit hack and slash. I realize they've added defensive routines such as blocks etc. I'm crossing my fingers that Ravens' gone at least some way towards a good melee gameplay model. TUS_Tomcat
Have you seen a complete duel yet on video? nope, we've only seen SHORT outtakes. A report on a video (actual video tape) with a english mag that is long uncut footage gives me good hope Hopefully someone can get that mag and capture the video, then UL it
Hoth
The strange thing is that probably 99% of JO enthusiasts WANT great sabre fights just like we saw in Phantom menace. You'd think if protracted melees were possible they'd be promoting it in the trailers like crazy??? Basically there's only 1 reason I am buying this game; Online light sabre fighting. I dare say a lot of people feel the same way as me. Here's hoping that JO lives up to expectations in this regard Hoth
TUS_Tomcat
I dont want it for online saber fighting I want it for saber fighting Offline saber play will also be GREAT. Can you say: excellent bots and great singleplayer story? And of course its not just saber fighting, its saber fighting plus force use. Basicly the whole Jedi deal

Hoth I have to agree Raven hasn't shown 100% of what the game is capable of providing in terms of duel length and features. Not every battle is prolonged as the one in Ep1. To make all fights do this would make the game boring and repetitive. Instead, they want you to learn how to fight well, and have a glorious battle like the one in Ep1 a semi-rare thing and an amazing sight. Hack and slash? Yes thats what sabers are good at... to the newbie. Once you master the controls you'll be able to use certain moves for certain situations and you'll be able to pull off a lot of flashy moves and you wont run through halls constantly using the same slash over and over again. ILoveJainaSolo
One of the e3 footages available for download in this site, shows a quite long one on one saber fight, maybe you guys should take a look. Like, it's quite fast, and you get loads of flashes all over... i should be carefull no to develop epilepsy during online play! anyone remember those warnings in old 16-bit games manuals?? hohohohooho! P129
To be able to give full control of the saber you'd need some sort of virtual reality equipment. The only game that gives you full control when in melee combat is Die by the Sword. You controlled the sword arm by doing advanced strokes with the mouse. You who have played it; was it really that accurate? Answer: No. The dude with the sword was totally on crack when you moved the mouse. As you couldn't do intricate moves like twisting the wrist or other stuff the only way to kill something was to wave the mouse from the left to the right as fast as you could. Thanks for bringing this up. I guess that the lightsaber should have the ability to have prolonged battles lasting 1+ minute, but most fights should be less than 10 or 20 seconds. It also should have the ability to have these prolonged movie-like battles WITHOUT the willing consent of the duellers. In JK, the ability was there, but it was too hard to do and nobody wanted to do it.

Covax
That's the problem with Real Life vs Movie vs Game. Real life sword-fights were quick, dirty and over in a flash. The good (as in limited hopping) Dules in JK hardly ever went longer than 30 seconds.
Kurgan
This site describes something that might be of interest.. http://www.klov.com/T/Tsurugi.html Arcade game that uses a swingable sword controller for onscreen actions.... it actually sounds (if I'm interpreting the bad translation correctly) a lot like the glyph system... I haven't played it, but I'd certainly love to try it if I ever found a machine... Anyhow, IMHO, the "best" sword fighting game I've yet played is Bushido Blade 2 (and Bushido Blade 1 is a close second) for the PSX, although I must admit the gameplay is a lot slower paced than JK (but for some people, that makes it superior I would think). It has blood, but no dismemberment, in addition. However, I still like the JK series, because it has that Star Wars atmosphere and Force powers. L3onheart
A Jedi fights with grace and elegance, rather than hack and slash my young padawan. You may think that all you have to do is cut the oponent's insides out, but you must do so in a graceful matter.
RedHerring
Having all lightsaber fights last like the ones in the movie wouldn't be smart. Because....its a movie. If the fights lasted 30 secs it wouldn't be that amazing would it? Plus, John Williams would have to make a piece so fast the notes would lose all meaning. The movie fights are great but I wouldn't want to have more than 1 a day.
Backslash
Sure EP1 had a great saber fight at the end, but I'd rather see something more dramatic like the one in ESB or RotJ. The lightstaff added an interesting twist onto the fight, allowing Maul to fight both Obiwan and QuiGon at the same time, yet still, being a NF Saberist from JK, I only perfer the 1vs1 setting, so I can not worry about someone coming out of nowhere and attempting to blindside me while I attack another player. Having a battle LIKE EP1 would be very fun, and a definate replay area, however I'd rather not have to fight all my saber fights that long. Moses
That Bushido Blade game sounds like fun! I think that the SP fights with the reborns will not take long. As we've seen, they're not too smart. I mean, the are dangerous, don't get me wrong, but they aren't that tough. A flip over their attack and a quick slice can finish them off. I'm thinking the bosses will be much smarter and harder to defeat. I'm just imagining flipping over their blade and having them whirl around and force push you into a wall. It's going to be amazing. In regard to MP, we know saber battles have to be somewhat drawn out, because there is a specific Jedi Duel mode. For those of you not familiar with it, two players fight each other while all others watch from floating cameras. The winner goes on in a sort of king of the hill type game. This will be amazing!
