Ready to pull out my hair

You know, a lot of these levels are really poorly planned out, you get to spots and have no clue where to go. I am at one of those spots again.

I've killed the bartender, killed a bunch of people, went down an elevator, was going across a bridge and it blew up, now I'm on a circular center thing which I can't get the door open, there's a hell of a long 'jump' across the opposite side where the bridge exploded, but I've tried about 300 times to make that. There's a ledge way below to the left that I have tried another 300 times to make. What's the trick?

I've tried force pull, push, speed, everything! Help!

Look, just because you can't figure out how to get through an area doesn't mean the game is poorly planned out, it just means the game may not fit your particular playing style.

Now: your problem. You can either make the jump (it is possible but hard - since you already died "300 times" trying to make it, we'll not go there) OR you can try getting into the center island. Since the door is locked, you're going to have to make your own entrance. I won't give it away since it's more rewarding when you finally figure it out on your own, all I will say is this: try looking at the island from a different perspective.

If you didn't miss that jump once, then you are much better than me, however I think we're thinking of different jumps.

In any event, I still can't figure out a way into the center place, I have hacked at it with my lightsabre, have shot it with all my guns, have tried blowing it up. I can't figure it out.

And I tried making the jump about 30 more times, from different angles, etc. I either hit my head on the opening wall and fall straight down or I am just a few inches short every time.

Sigh, what would be the point in breezing through everything?

I understand that there's a fine line between a decent difficulty curve and a "poorly planned" game, but comparitavely this flows just as well if not better than any other FPS based games I've played.

I think my point was more....well....here's an example. On the level where you blow up the ion cannons, Jan tells you "I'm waiting for you in the valley." Ok, well you just ran through a valley to get to the elevator to kill the cannons, so you assume that's the valley she's talking about. Once you get back to where you started you see that there is indeed a new ship that has landed there, so I assumed that was the ship I was supposed to be on and I spent 30 minutes trying to jump up to that platform to get on that ship.

It wasn't til I got frustrated with that that I figured out there was ANOTHER valley with another ship that I needed to get to.

Don't get me wrong, I think the game is incredible, however there are a couple little oversights that I wish were flushed out a little more.

Another example is the radiation room puzzle. While it's a great puzzle, you need to be in the right place at the right time to find the solution and there is no hint or foreshadowing to point you to where the solution is, so you can walk by the location 5000 times and never see the solution. I don't know how many times I re-ran through the entire level trying to figure out what I missed.

That's all I meant. :)

Heya,

As far as the "Jan waiting for you in the Valley," she also mentions something about picking up the colonists, so that should have tipped you off as to what ship and where she was.

I spent a lot of time trying to jump up that ledge too. :)

I'm not sure which radiation room puzzle you're referring to.

While I agree with you that there are things that are a little tedious (the doombringer communications array color coded process) I think these are evident in most if not all FPS based games. Or in all plot, story-line based games.

In short, I understand what you're saying. But to label the game as "poorly planned out" is a travesty.

Take care,

Hehe, no problem buddy.

A few times (one being when I was in the process of dying and I hit 'quick save' instead of 'quick load') I've wanted to force-grip my monitor right out the freakin' window too.

Good luck the rest of the way.

  • 2 weeks later...

I used force speed to make that jump on my second try, as i was moving to fast the first time and got caught in the explosion....then I also had trouble jumping up to a good spot at the side of the doorway and fell all the way off a couple times (the f12 key is your friend) I tried shooting the glass out nearest the door, which was a no go, and then attempted to jump all the way on top, and found breakable glass....

YES, this is a flame. This is a flame to all those who need to improve their ego's by belittling others in a damn forum. If the guy needs help, help him. Shame on you. (ooooh. Look at me. I passed that part so I better put others down who can't.) If the guy wants spoilers, that's HIS decision, not YOURS.

If no one answered your question, the answer is to jump onto the island from the ledge where you came from. The one with the triclops guys throwing detonators at you. (the place that looks like it has wheelchair ramps)

As I did, as you get onto the island, go left to the door, stand side on to the door and jump onto the edge of the doorframe (its the ledge at about head height. Then turn and jump up onto the top of the building. Don't try for the side windows as they are unbreakable, go for the very top and in through there.

I opted for dropping down onto the island. I'm with Tom, though. I wish I'd known about using "E" when landing, 'cuz I got pretty banged up. I think Kyle says it best in JK1 when he moans "Not another thing to fall from".

One note about quicksaving: If you're going to use it, make sure you have a recent hard save, or you could wind up screwed like I did. I was playing the part on the Doomgiver where you have only 1 chance to do something; I saved *after* I did that, and so I had to re-play the entire level.

I'd LOVE to help you more, Undertakr, but I don't have enough info to go on.

I'm guessing from your talk about the bar tender that you are in the streets with lots of snipers. I think I know the door you are referring to, but I should point out that you CAN make it back across the broken platform... as you must have jumped over it in the first place. I'm guessing that your problem is more to do with the platform at the opposite side.

Jump back over the broken platform and go up in the lift. I think you go down one level and then jump onto the balcony rail on the small outcrop.

From here you can jump onto the central circular thing's roof, smash a window and press the button inside. You may or may not take some damage during the jump. Once you have landed, be aware of the positions of a couple of snipers that are waiting for you.

Your final destination in this level is the floating garbage skip which you'll have fun trying to jump onto.

Hope this makes sense.
