Multiplayer game skips on player join/enter.

Anyone else have the problem of the game pausing/skipping for a second or two every time a player connects and then enters the game? It's really frustrating, especially on the many maps with small walkways and large pits.

 

I have Deferred loading off, because with it on it would hang/skip even longer when I died. But even when I had that on, it would still skip in normal play so I don't think that's the problem.

 

Is there a way to resolve this without forcing all models to be the same? Are most q3 engine games like this? Maybe there can be a way to pre-load all models so people joining/leaving is seamless?
