A different locking-up problem

I have a locking-up problem that doesn't seem to have been addressed yet.

On my computer, JK2 installed fine but I haven't been able to play it - When I start a new single player game, first it loads, then the story starts scrolling, then the camera pans down and you see a ship fly by. Right at this point my game always freezes, and I am unable to do anything except hard-reset.

If I try to press escape to bypass the movie, the game freezes at the point that I pressed escape. It seems to me like there is a problem with my computer trying to run the game engine itself - a problem that doesn't affect the movies or main menu.

Tech support couldn't help me - the best they could do was guess I had a corrupted install and tell me to reinstall it and call back if that didn't help. I was just hoping someone could help me before Monday when I call them back...

My system is not great, but it's not bad:

Athlon 750

128 MB

32MB Stealth III S540 (the techie said they tested with my driver, and it worked fine)

Lots of free hard drive space

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you!

First, can you play the MP game? If you answered yes then

take a look at my other thread.

As it might be your CD drive that's the culprit in the errors you're getting.

Hope this helps although if you don't have a second drive then I don't know what to tell you as it seems that the Copy Protection on the disk really plays havoc with some CD drives. :(

Unfortunately, I cannot play MP. There is a slightly different problem.

When trying to run MP, the credit movies run (lucasarts, activision, raven) and then I get a black screen with a repeating music clip (about a half second, then cut off and repeated). At this point there is nothing to do but hard-reset. So I haven't even been able to get to the main menu for multiplayer.

I tried your suggestion - using my CD-R drive instead, and it didn't seem to make any difference.

Thanks for your suggestion, though. Does anyone else have any ideas?
