MightyPez
Ok, I setup a dedicated server on my server box, set it as the DMZ on my linksys router. i can get the game to appear on the in game browser, but whenever someone joins, they are dropped within a minute. I have no idea why it happens, but I can stay on just fine. Any ideas?

jeditsp
i have a linksys router too and when i set up my dmz host i get the same error :/ but i believe it has nothing to do with JK2 because it used to do this to me for half-life and quake 3. UberJedi727
got this answer guys of yodas help desk.. not sure if it resolves all the issues though In addition, many routers designed to share one Internet connection among more than one computer have firewalls built into them. Most routers require specific Internet ports to be opened before multiplayer games will function correctly. The specific UDP ports that this program uses are 28060, 28061, 28062, and 28070 through 28081 (inclusive.) These ports need to be opened in the Out-bound direction to join games. They will also need to be opened in the In-bound direction if you want players outside of your firewall to be able to join your dedicated or non-dedicated servers behind your firewall. MightyPez
All my ports are open, so that doesn't work. besides, when it is set as the DMZ i thought it was exempt from the routers protection?
UberJedi727
I think that is true.. I have had all sorts of troubles on xp machines.. and 2k machines.. mostly being that "parse" error I am not running the no-cd fix or anything.. i'm not sure what the problem is
zkid
I also run win2k and get seem to get this work on my lan. Play lasts like one minute -- then I get the clpacket parsing error and everyone gets dropped. I also run a lynksis router too.
zkid
Just checked a couple of things. 1. The actual message is CL_ParsePacketEntities: end of message. 2. When I try to join a game from inside the LAN I get absolutely horrible pings showing up. 700-900. 3. I have played online -- via internets servers -- with no problems and pings in the 30-70 range. Mavrick063
I don't have the problem with dropping of clients but I can definetly relate to the server having horable ping rates 700-800 at times then it calms for a bit then back to 700-800 then calms just like a yo yo the only time i have seen this is when q# was patching with 129g and 129h but seen as I see some servers without this problem it can't be that i wouldn't think. hopefully we will have some good answers to our questions soon as well as a standard cfg file so we don't have to load the server threw the game. I came up with a home brew cfg but i'm sure it's not optimal..
MightyPez
Well I've been doing a bit more research, and I have found that other people have this exact same problem with linksys routers. I did some testing, and this happens with ALL games (HL, Q3, and JK2 are the ones I have tested). One suggestion has been to change the default port the server is on, but i have yet to confirm this. UberJedi727
I am running a linksys router under windows xp.. but I have also tried running the server under ME and 2000 I am a "parse" victum.. clients drop randomly all the damn time. I will say this however.. I ran a quake server with no problems.. None whatsoever. Although at the time i was running 98 dunno wish this would get fixed.. I've said it once.. BRING ON THE PATCH! DeathsHead
Its the Linksys router for sure. I have no problems on my Dlink router, but when I tried it on a linksys people who connected were getting cl_flushentity packet errors and getting disconnected every 5 minutes. It also seems to having something to do with Lanning into the game yourself (maybe the rate difference causes errors or something???)
DeathsHead
MightyPez: It took so much research and testing, but I figured out how to fix the problem many of use are having with people being dropped from our servers randomly. For completeness, I have only done this on a linksys BEFSR11 router, so I don't know if it will work with other routers. First off, most of us set the server as the DMZ in our routers, mainly because this is the easiest thing t0 do. Well, unfortunately linksys sucks at using DMZ, so that is a big no-no. Your best bet is to use Forwarding in the router settings. So in my router I go to "forwarding", enter the IP I want forwarded, make sure it is using TCP and UDP. then i specify the range of ports i want open (ex. 28060-28081 or whatever). I apply the settings, and voila, random drops are over. I am still having a few problems however. One, I can't play in a game myself because I time out, this may be due to me connecting over the external IP or using the default port. the second issue is I can't seem to send a heartbeat to the raven master jk2 server (masterjk2.ravensoft.com), so the sever will never get any hits. I'll keep updating when i get more info. There is a simple way around this. Right now I got a DLink router from bestbuy for 70 bucks. I am getting one 30 dollar rebate, and a 15 dollar rebate. Actual cost $25 dollars. The DLink is so much better than my Linksys. You can always have it assign the same address to your computer through mac address mapping... I love it. It has fixed so many problems. Best $25 dollars I ever spent. Trust me, dump your linksys, I did.
Black_Knight
I have emailed Linsys over and over with this problem of dropping clients in ALL games, even on a LAN, with the server computer behind the router. Clients have been fine (although JKII is the first game I have had trouble with in this area. As a client on the Linksys, my game gets the 'connection trouble' icon and the game pauses for a few seconds. This happens about every minute to two minutes and is really annoying. What I would do, is email Linksys about this 'hosting games behind the router' problem until they fix it. If enough ppl complained, they would have to do something.
