Hello

I'm basically a novice when it comes to video boards and how they relate to video games. I've had some difficulty with this new JK2 game in how it runs on my platform plus some other issues. I hope someone might have a solution for me.

First of all I'm using:

AMD 450 MHz 128 Meg of RAM

Voodoo3 card using Wicked GL extention.

plenty of disk space.

Now the Wicked extention idea I got here off of another thread. This "worked" to a point. I enabled me to actually use the Voodoo card because when I first tried the game it wouldn't even load. Now the game at least "works". BUT...right there in the first level when you hit those pack of Stormtroopers the game bogges down completely. You can't shoot straight and the video "skips" and all. I am running the game in "fast" mode so it is not as if I'm trying some big time resolution or anything. I admit it might just be my somewhat slower processor (LOL) but I've heard on other threads even 450 MHz processors can give a smooth game. BTW, I did also try a NVIDIA card which (GeForce2 MX200) and it was pretty much the same results.

Also, this cinematic at the beginning of the game loads TERRIBLY slow. 2-3 minutes. Everytime I get killed as Kyle the damn thing runs the stupid "..long ago in a galaxy" scroll AGAIN. Why does it do this? I quick saved but the thing just starts all over again. This is incredibly annoying.

Also, in another thread this is mention of some sort of setting to get rid of the "bouncing" gun as you are running. It seemed like this was some sort of file you have to edit. The thread said:

" cy_XXXXXX" 0 or some such. Is this some file on the disk I can edit ?? Which file?

Thanks for listening to my inane questions and any help would be apprciated.

PS: This forum is awfully slow also. What gives???

First, is that a K6 AMD processor? If so, that could be the problem. Basically, even non-Intel x86 (standard PC) CPU before the AMD Athlon had horrible floating point performance. This is rather important in games. That could be contributing to the slowness you mentioned.

The Voodoo3 also isn't going to be helping much. Make sure you are running with the lowest possible settings at 640x480 resolution x16 bit color. Turn off shadows and that stuff.

You really are at the very bottom of the system requirements. Turn down your settings all the way. There probably isn't much you can do with that computer.

I'd give the nVidia card another try. Get the latest drivers. An MX200 is still at the bottom of the barrel though.

The game loads slowly for everyone. More RAM helps.

About loading the level again, the game doesn't seem to load quicksaves after deaths. When you die, just hit F9 (or whichever key you have load quicksave bound to) and it will load your quicksave. If you wait too long and it starts loading an actual save, hit escape and then load -> select your quicksave.

I believe the bouncing gun tweak needs to be done in the game's console. Hit ` (they key above tab) to bring it down. Then find the console command and type it. Hit ` again to get rid of the console.

The forums don't seem that slow. The game just came out; so the site is probably being hammered pretty hard.

yep, if indeed it is th K6-2 cpu then it ends up bottlenecking and you can actually count the frames as they go by.. I know because I have the same problem.. I won't even try to install this or any other game until my new stuff arrives.. I got so mad at the lack of cpu power and lack of a 2.0 compliant agp slot that I had to shell out 600 $ CAD to upgrade.. *crosses fingers, hopefully everything arrives and works perfectly*

LOL

Well, I really couldn't remember which processor I had but I took a look and it seems I don't even have a K6-2. I believe it's a K5. Ouch.

Well, I was looking into a new motherboard anyway...so...

Thanks again.

Also, is there a site somewhere that has the game codes listed? Such as "cg_XXXX" or whatever?

The game console has some cryptic info I'm not entirely sure what it means....any place I can get some help files??

Thanks all.
