Interface/loading games problems...

I'm having an odd problem with JK2 and surprisingly it has nothing to do with the game play itself, it's the interface.

 

I initially load the game with no problem. I go to a saved game and load it with no problem. BUT, if I die and want to reload a past game, the load progress bar shows but it stops about 1/4 through and the game freezes and I have to shut it down, restart the game, reload the save, then continue playing. This also happens if I have the game loaded and decide to stop playing the current game and go to load up a saved game.

 

This happens every time, it's not inconsistant. Also the quick save feature is useless because when you die and hit your fire button to load up your last quick save, it just reloads the entire mission from the very beginning and ignores your quick save.

 

The last problem I'm having is I just finished playing the level where you and Lando are making an escape in his ship. It goes through the cut scene about where Lando will drop you off at Cloud City and then after that it shows your progress stats for the last level, the progress bar comes up and again it stops loading at 1/4th the bar and the game freezes.

 

I am now officially stuck and can't continue with the game because of this. I even shut down the game, reloaded it then reloaded the last save and it froze again at the loading prompt for the next level.

 

Again, the gameplay is fabulous, I don't have a single problem with the game itself, just the interface around the game.

 

I use Windows 98SE, and my system is a P3-500 with 512 megs of ram. A 40 speed CD-Rom and a Voodoo 3000 video card that has 16 megs of ram.

 

Anyway, I'm certain it's not a video card problem because again the game runs perfect. Is there going to be a patch out soon for any of these problems? It's really frustrating having to reload the game each time I want to load up a saved game after I die.

its the voodoo card im afraid i have exactly the same problem. although for some reason, after tapping the caps lock and num lock buttons repeteadly (combined with time and cursing) the cloud city lvl loaded. its not instant and i dont know wether it will work for you, but its the only advice ive got hope it dosnt happen at the next load point too... im pretty sure it dosnt help with the reload problem though

Man, I could have sworn it was nothing to do with the video card because the game runs great otherwise.

 

I just read a few more recent posts about people with Voodoo 3000 cards and having even more problems than I am. I find it odd everyone with the card is having different problems. I've never had a problem with any movies or the game itself, just the loading. Others have had problems with the movies not playing and all that. I guess there's enough variables involved that it makes it a different problem for everyone with the same card.

 

Anyway, thanks for the info. I'll try to do the caps lock/num lock thing you mentioned and see if I can get it to work. Otherwise I'll be sitting and waiting for the patch.
