How do I get pk3 files to work with JKII?

I downloaded an old Bid For Power PK3 file for quake III. I put it in the base directory but the characters don't show up. What do I have to do to get the characters in the PK3 file. I'm a total n00b at these quake style games. Thx in advance.

the Bidforpower models or any quake3 models will not work on JK2:jedi Outcast becuase the q3 and jk2 have different model formats or something like that.
