However, going down the shaft there won't do you any good until you've been somewhere else (but take a look anyway, because it'll help you figure out what to do when you reach the "other" place). Anyway, that somewhere else is reached through one of the garbage crushes. Look for an exit shaft from one of them that doesn't have a cart underneath, and jump up into it.
