SlipStream
Nope...he still gets the cl_prase things and Illegible Server Messages too. I dont know what could be wrong. I did exactly what you said. I started up a server with .cfg then shut it down and created another game regularly. Also my friend has still only been able to detect only my router and not my computer ISP. Though he can connect to my game still. What im curious to know is if i can make the game flow throw multipul ports? Maybe there just isnt enough room. I dont know...but this aint working. Ask me about things you dont under stand and ill explain better...
SlipStream
Just another update...my friend got one of these when he disconnected too: BadDeltaEntityNumber: 1024. I bet that dont have anything to do with the connection problem..but what ever...

jeffscott72
I was having the same problem and found a Quake3 help page that said to get the lasted NIC card drivers. I did it and it helped.
rahsgtslaughter
I managed to crack the code with my router! It was really pissing me off. But i managed to do it by upgradeing my firmware then using port forwarding and it hasnt droped yet! oh im using the 4port one..
SlipStream
Ok...were is that help page...what is NIC mean...and what is firmware? Also still havent got this to work yet..
UberJedi727
Fixed it guys.. I cant believe it.. set my MTU on my router .. well enabled it was the term.. set the value to the lowest possible at 571 or so.. haven't tested the server with a load.. but the parse error is gone
Aerys
My experience has been better than most. I set up port forwarding with my LinkSys (it does NOT have the latest drivers, it has 1.39 which I think is around a year old) for just the default port 28070 and it came up and ran just fine all last night. People were connecting and playing with no complaints at all. Except me. Once I enabled the port forwarding, I could no longer access the master server from my other machine. If I tried to access the server in internet mode I would get the cl_parse error right away but if I attached to the server in local mode it worked fine. I suspect the error is due to my going out to the master server to connect, then the packets are being redirected back to my same IP so they are being dropped, causing the error (pure speculation on my part). The real problem for me is the fact I can't get to the master server with my game machine with the port forwarding on. This one has me stumped, as all I see is an empty list and "Getting Server Information..." (or whatever) in the lower righthand corner.
SlipStream
set my MTU on my router .. well enabled it was the term.. set the value to the lowest possible at 571 or so.. haven't tested the server with a load.. but the parse error is gone MTU?!?!?! WTF is that? MESA NEED EL-INFORMATION lol...I still havent had any success getting this to work. Mind you im trying to do a non-dedicated server here. People were connecting and playing with no complaints at all. Except me. This is why i havent tried doing dedicated (both because i have heard of this issue before, and i have no control over the other three computers in my house ). What is strange however is that someone mentioned that he used DMZ hosting and the server allowed ppl to join fine. I did this and my friends were still getting the cl_parse errors. Bah this is so frusterating. Why must linksys be such a trouble maker?
SLI_Fallen
Slipstream, it's in your router (the Linksys 41 anyways) Browse to 192.168.1.1 (your router) go to advanced, all the way to the bottom, set MTU to enable (if it's not yet) and set the field to 576 (the minimum)
UberJedi727
thanks for at least a little love there brother Guys I've struggled with this problem for months and months.. and I finally fixed it.. if you have the 41.. like me.. (linksys router) you have to update your firmware to the latest version.. you can find that on their website then log into 192.168.1.1 from your web browser (admin is default password) and go to advanced tab enable MTU and set value to 576 btw guys I still haven't experimented with a load on my server but it doesn't appear to affect internet connectivity at all.. Hope this one helps you all .. nothing else did for me until this! uberJedi
Xenoeye
Just wondering, I also have the 41 btw... Whats MTU?
UberJedi727
Well I'm assuming your online heh.. so do a search for its actually meaning. My guess is it has something to do with the way windows reacts to the interenet connection.. it is an older type windows thing.. 576 is the lowest value.. which has been referenced as the "dial up" setting.. where as 1500 is where a lot of these internet speed booster programs set it at. I cant honestly say I've noticed a difference with my interenet connection having set this.. and it has cleared up that problem with the parse error for sure now.. Its something you can enable in the router if you want.. disable if you dont want it so no big deal well good luck

Xenoeye
MTU is to do with packet size. High MTU will give you better slightly better download speeds and low MTU will give you slightly better pings. Any idea how to fix this on a Linksys 41? Skidley
It looks like it saying it can not allocate the ip port. Is TCP/IP working properly for you? It looks like the dedicated server looks for that first available port....can't find it and then it goes to the next available port and dies there to. I would assign more ports to the router to test if the other ports respond the same way if not I would look at the protocol being a possible problem. Aerys
I know exactly what is causing this. You're specifying an IP address in your config or batch file that is the Router/Gateway IP. The problem is the server IP really isn't your Router/Gateway IP and its trying to open ports on an IP address that doesn't belong to it. Just don't specify the IP address. I don't and these issues have gone away and all is well. Look for a thread on the first or second page I started that says something along the lines "What IP Address should I use?"
