trying to fix voodoo 4 4500 problems ????

HC - Exar Kun

Recommended Posts

Hey ppl sorry this is so long...

But we gotta get this fixed immediately to save ourselves ALLOT of $$$ from buying new video cards.

I am using a Voodoo 4 4500 AGP and I am currently trying out MANY possible fixes to the following problems :

Open GL errors, fonts in game messed up and the game not starting up correctly.

I was directed by Lucasarts Technical Support by email to try the Voodoo 5 v1.04 driver.

I will be going to the voodoo 5 driver version 1.04 right now

and I am going to try Wicked GL if that doesn't help.

I will let all of you Voodoo 4 4500 users out there know...

what DOES WORK and what DOES NOT WORK since I have 2 different systems with voodoo 4's on them.

Here is a copy of the email along with my error and dx8 info they sent me about one of my systems

Hi,

Thank you for your message.

At the time of release of Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, 3dfx is no longer in business. Because of this, we will be unable to provide support for 3Dfx cards. This being said, we tested these cards in all operating systems with the drivers listed below to provide information for people still using these chipsets.

3dfx cards are NOT supported in Windows 2000 or XP.

The official drivers for these operating systems are not OpenGL compatible.

I suggest that you download and install

the latest retail Windows 95/98

driver for your Voodoo display card.

The Voodoo3 1.07.00

WHQL (DX ver. 4.12.01.0666) driver is available at:

http://www.voodoofiles.com/3201.

The Voodoo4/5 1.04.00 driver is available at http://www.download.com

(do a search for Voodoo5 > In Downloads)

or try the following URL:

http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10110-100-3748584.html?tag=st.dl.10000-

103-1.lst-7-1.3748584

Please note the following issues you may encounter using a Voodoo 3/4/5 card with Jedi Knight 2

(listed in the game's Troubleshooting Guide on the game

CD).

When using a Voodoo 3 card with driver version v3-w9x-1.07.00

(4.12.01.0666), you may experience the following issues:

·The Mon Mothma hologram may be displayed as a white rectangle.

·Pre-rendered cutscenes may flicker between the movie and a white screen.

·The in-game menus may be a little blurry. If this occurs, they will still be readable.

·The screenshot of the saved game may be displayed as a white square in the

Load Game and Mission Load screen.

·Saved games may take a long time to load.

When using a Voodoo 4/5 card with driver version vs-w9x-1.04.00

(4.12.01.0666), you may experience the following issue:

·The screenshot of the saved game may be graphically corrupt in the Load

Game and Mission Load screen. This does not affect the saved game.

For more information and help with Jedi Knight 2 running on a Voodoo 3, 4 or

5 video card, I recommend that you go to the following 3rd party website for

recommendations from other users:

Below is the result of a request for tech help from the web. It was

submitted by Eric (iamexarkun@earthlink.net) on 3/29/2002 5:29:03 AM

----------------------------

PLATFORM: PC/IBM and compatibles

MEDIA: CD-ROM

LANGUAGE: English

COUNTRY: USA

NATURE OF THE PROBLEM: Graphics/Video

PROBLEM: I have noticed that after a while playing

( 30 minutes or more ) the " Popup " text for the identifier, kill

messages, etc... gets messed up and becomes unreadable for some reason.

Also when I am killed in the game

( SP or MP )

it will show the loading bar load to about 90% and then will lock and

won't restart me at the last checkpoint.

I have to exit to the main menu to re-load the game.

I am currently running...

AMD Athlon ( Thunderbird ) 1000

256mb PC133 SDRAM

3dfx Voodoo 4 32mb 4500 AGP

SB Live! Value

40x / 16x / 12x Pacific Digital CD-R / RW

24x Generic CD-ROM

56k AMR Modem ( Audio Modem Riser )

Linksys LNE100 TX 10/100 NIC

40gig Western Digital 5400rpm ATA/100 HD

Windows 98 w / IE 5.5 and Direct X 8

All drivers are the latest for all hardware and should be compatible with

DX-8

I was just wondering if it is an actual problem with the game that will

eventually be patched or if its just me.

I realize that the game is BRAND NEW and want to say that other than these

problems the game is absolutely fantastic !

True Star Wars at its best....

I am happy now thatJedi Knight 2 has been released, been waiting since

1997 for this and you've outdone yourselves again.

Thanks allot in advance for your help.

Well so far so good Outcast loaded up right away after I installed the voodoo 5 driver that I got from download.com

Here is the direct link ( if it works for you )

http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10110-100-3748584.html?tag=st.dl.10001-103-1.lst-7-7.3748584

Otherwise go to

http://www.download.com

And search for voodoo and look for the voodoo 5 1.04.00 driver its 8.4mb and so far its running great on my 2 systems.

In single player (Kejim Base only map tested) and in Multiplayer (Star Destroyer only map tested) Internet (-56K-) with out font errors or crappy textures... no errors !!!!!!

Running Windows 98

I have NOT tested this with CHEATS enabled yet.

Did not install WickedGL full version or demo version

Framerates are pretty good averging about 50fps

800x600

16-bit color

16-bit textures

Geometric detail - Medium

Texture filter - Bilinear

Shaders - On

The system info is the same as in the last post except the new voodoo drivers

I am continuing to try and make the game crash on the other system though.... hehehe

:D

10 minutes and NO luck yet...

 :

Smooth sailing so far...

Let know know in a bit if I find anything
