Go into System

- Click on the Performance tab, then on the File System tab.

- Click on the CD-ROM tab.

- Move the slider for Supplemental Cache Size all the way to the left (small).

- Next to Optimize access pattern for, click on the arrow pointing down and select the 'No read-head' setting.

- Click on Apply, then OK, then on either OK or Close. Restart the computer if prompted to.

Are you using a motherboard with VIA chipset by any chance? VIA has addressed the issue of a CD-ROM/CD-RW not copying files correctly to the hard drive or reading from the CD-ROM/CD-RW. This is called latency and VIA has a patch for it. If VIA is not the chipset that you use, you need to find out if it is just JO that is not working or other games/data files being corrupted. If it is just JO, then I dunno what to say. If it is your CD Drive, then get the latest drivers for it or for your motherboard and motherboard BIOS. Usually this fixes problems with CD Drives not reading or copying the data correctly. The other problem might be that the hard drive is not writing them correctly either. In that case, run chkdsk or scan disk and defragment. If that does not work, then the only other thing I can tell you is to buy a new hard drive or try a different one.

It's very odd that JO is the only CD to not work especially if you tried other JO CDs. On the other hand, it could be that this game is actually trying to take advantage of the speed of the drive and is therefore not copying correctly. It does not hurt to add the latency patch. It is really easy to uninstall if needed too. Really, I believe it is one file plus a couple of registry entries. Good luck.

OUCH! That really sucks! Most new burners should handle JK2! My Lite-On 12x burner is probably a year old and it reads the JK2 CD with no problem. What brand burner did you try? Pioneer, Aopen, Toshiba, Lite-On?

I'm not sure but did you say you've tried other JK2 CDs in your burner and still no luck? If not, maybe you should exchange the CD-ROM where you bought it for another.

I've run into two games, System Shock 2 and No One Lives Forever that require me to get a nocd patch. Even though my burner does real well with games I finally decided to bite the bullet and picked up a Lite-On 16X DVD-ROM drive for $42 at newegg.com - I just wanted to make sure this doesn't happen with a newer game - until the next, newer copy protection comes out at least.

My computer --> right click on your cd rom drive with jk2 in it and select open --> highlight all the files that are required..i.e. everything except the autorun crap --> copy it and paste it on your desktop or in a folder of your choice --. Install!
