Yeah it sucks they couldn't get lucasarts to use common sense and have the cd-key system.

Sof2 will have the cd-key system.

Q3arena's cd-key system Works GREAT.

Sof ones cd-key system was not based on the q3 system. And that's why it had issues.

Jk2 with the cd-key system = better for Everyone.

I think what most people mean when they say cd key is the "keyserver authentication" like Quake3 Arena had. This system was fantastic, and the company mantained control over all keys (thus they could ban or issue new keys as needed), unlike the typically quickly cracked "cd keys" you see on regular products (not games). This system was great because it meant that copied games could not be played on the internet, since only valid keys worked and only one copy of those keys could be logged in at a time. Eventually ID software "opened" the keyserver (the game was going on 3 years old.. probably to save money) meaning that now all those "keygenerators" will work, but then so would any number.

However, I think this discussion is one we've had several times before, and we don't wish to encourage any kind of warez on our forums, so I'm afraid this topic will be closed. If you wish to discuss this further, please do so elsewhere, and not on our forums. There isn't anything we can do about the keyserver issue, except maybe start a petition, but it's too late for this game (?). If you bought the game, great, you supported the company for their hard work, and maybe that will help make up for those who didn't and ripped them off. ; p
