Random freezing on WinXP Laptop

Well as the title suggests I am having a couple of problems with playing JO on my laptop. Briefly, the specs are:

 

Dell Inspiron 8100

PIII 1.2 ghz

384 meg RAM

ATI Radeon 7500 mobility 64 meg

DirectX 8.1

WinXP (home)

etc

 

Now, basically, the game runs pretty much okay with moderate to high settings etc. I don't expect it to run ultra well, conisdering it's a laptop, but nevertheless it's quite respectable. However, ever since first installing and playing I seem to get these random freezes. Basically it's like the laptop gets stuck in a timewarp, and just sits there with a frozen screen, and you can't do *anything*. The problem, apart from the freezing itself, is that it seems to be purely sporadic, and there's no determinable pattern to it. Sometimes on loading a level it will immediately freeze, or I may be playing it for 1 min or 5 mins and it will freeze. It's quite a frustration as I can't locate why.

 

Any suggestions guys? I'd quite like to get it to work without worrying when it's going to die on me each time. Would lower graphics settings help? Is it something to do with the Intel Speedstep technology? Something to do with the fact it is purely a laptop? I'd really appreciate any help, and thanks in advance.
