Unsupported marker type *x** error

I KNOW alot of other people experience similar error and that it's been posted on this forum - but there's no good solution to this problem - I've tried most of them. I've sent at least 4 emails to Activision in Europe and a few to Lucas Arts Support group - no reply whatsoever.

At first, when I tried to install the game - the installation program stoppes at 42% with this error message:

Component: Game

File Group: Game Files

File: G:\GameData\GameData\base\assets0.pk3

Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

I tried a cd-rom (Creative 48x), a CD-r (Sony 20x/10x/48x), a dvd-rom (Samsung SD-608) - and each one gave the same error.

I went back to the store and demanded to get a working copy. They took the time to test it before giving the new copy to me, and it worked on their test machine.

I came home and tried to install it, still the same error.

Then I copied the entire CD to my harddrive, and installed it from there - then it worked.

I then tried to play it (with cd in drive), but after showing the Lucas Art and Activision logos, it returned to windows and the brightness seemed to be turned all the way up (by the game), to fix this I had to reboot.

I then tried multiplayer, and it worked. I didn't try to play that long, but for a few minutes - everything seemed to work perfectly.

I asked around, and someone pointed me to gamecopyworld.com, where I can get files which replaces the startup .exe file and you can play without the original CD. I tried all of the "fixes" or what you call it, and only one of them actually worked. The game played fine - sound, cutscenes and all!

BUT! At the very end of the level ARTUS DETENTION, where I drop down from the shaft to the ground - the game shuts down and returns to window and shows this message:

I have;

Jedi Knight 2 : Jedi Outcast (JK2: v1.02a win-x86 Mar 4 2002)

CPU AMD Athlon 1400GHz

512MB ORIGINAL SDRAM 133MHz

Abit Siluro GeForce 2 MX 32MB running on Nvidia drivers version 6.13.10.2832

Running English Windows XP Pro with all latest updates

I have tried changing all graphical options, turning off OpenGL etc - but the error is still there.

This is really irritating! I have RTCW and QUAKE 3, and they all work perfectly without any errors.

Anyone care to shed some light on this tragic matter?

As for the install issues, I've been reading about people copying the JK CD contents to a directory on thier hard drive and installing from there. You could try that. Check around these forums for like install errors.

Regarding the gameplay issues. There is another thread here:

http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38308

With some people (myself included) working on that very issue. Theck out that link to see if it sheds any light on your problem.

GOOD LUCK!:)
