Question on HOTKEYS

I know that the key to building fast is to use the hotkey. My question is, do you use the default setting on hotkeys or do you customize it? If you do customize it what keys do you use for what units/buildings. Have you've found it easier to use hotkeys when thier customize, or does that confuse you when you look at the build icons. I noticed that the placement of the units that are to be built corresponds with the left-side of the keyboard. Can you send me some advise.

I think the default hotkeys are horribly unintuitive. I never played AoK so I was never introduced to the Q-W-E-R-T-A-S-D-F layout of keys, but honestly, LA could have done FAR better with the layout. I've changed my building hotkeys in the following way:

Q: Food Proc Center

W: Carbon Proc Center

E: Nova Proc Center (grEen)

R: Ore Proc Center (ore)

A: Animal Nursery

Z: Prefab Shelter (easy to hit, no other reason)

P: Power Core

C: War Center

F: Farm

H: Research Facility (iffy, I know)

S: Spaceport

 

B: Troop Center (think Barracks)

M: Mech Factory

J: Jedi/Sith Temple

H: Heavy-Weapons Factory

S: Aircraft Plant (used to the Spaceport from my StarCraft days)

F: Fortress

 

T: Tower

A: Anti-Air Tower

W: Light/Medium Wall

H: Heavy Wall

G: Gate

 

I haven't changed the unit hotkeys yet, because I'm too lazy, for now . Any structures I haven't mentioned simply stayed at their defaults; when I do happen to build those structures (rare), I just click on them. Hope this helps you to get organized.
