I got the same problem too...I reinstalled, and it cleared it up, only to turn up again a few levels later...I sent a very detailed report to Lucasarts on Wed and am waiting to hear word back from them...

Im running a Athlon XP1800, Asus, Radeon 8500, half a gig of RAM...

I have searched and searched multiple forums for this type of error and youre the first one Ive found, so at least I know its not only me...

Ive tried every possible setting change both in the game and my card, and still the same...Multi works fine...

One question for you, do you have any multimedia editing progs installed, such as Premiere, Photoshop, Macromedia Director? Also, do you have a Divx codec installed?

Was wondering if any of these apps might be causing it...

Only other thing I can think of is a faulty CD, if its not the game...Im gonna wait until Tuesday before I do another reinstall, see if Lucasarts replies by then...

You might wanna try reinstalling, if you havnt already...like I said, it worked for me for a few more levels...

Keep in touch, interesting prob...

Willeekinz,

Interesting observation on the Photoshop, DivX, etc connections. I have a buddy who does no image editing and does not have a DivX decoder. Simaler system no problems. I do alota PhotoShop work, have a DivX decoder. I wonder if you're onto something there?

Yo...

After trying the reinstalls, I concluded it was the disk, exchanged it, came home, installed...

Same prob...

I then uninstalled both my video driver and the game...went into the registry and removed all remnants...rebooted...reinstalled the driver...ran DISK CLEANUP and DISK DEFRAG...installed the game...RAN LIKE A CHARM...

Im thinking that Outcast requires a nice good drive thats unfragmented to run...

Try this and let me know what happens...

Good luck bro, and MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU...

  • 1 year later...

Wow, a lot of people seem to be having this problem.

I've tried what willeekinz suggested, but STILL no dice!!

I have an Nvidia GeForce 4 MX440, this game worked fine until I replaced the RAM in my machine and upgraded my BIOS. In fact, a lot of programs seem to have been giving me this same error lately, the most recent of which was 3DMark 2001SE Pro, but a reinstall fixed that problem in a jiffy, though reinstalling doesn't do squat for JK2. Can't run worth squat in safe mode either, as was suggested in the readme, since I get the same thing.
