bantha274 Posted April 6, 2002 Posted April 6, 2002 I have tried every way I can to host a MP game with no luck. If I use the in-game menu, none of my friends can find the game name in the server list. The MSN site doesn't work either when I try to host. I have set up games this way (in game): 1. Create server 2. Set options (NO dedicated server) 3. Begin The game starts with just my character and no one else joins. Am I doing something wrong? I want to be able to play a private game with my friends and I can't. Here are my PC specs: Windows XP Home Edition 80Gb Hard Drive 1.7Gb P4 processor 517RAM Nvidia GeForce2mx Graphics card Comcast Cable modem I've also tried hosting MP games with firewall on/off, still no dice. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. I've been trying everyday since I got this game, and I'm starting to get a little dissappointed with it.
bantha274 Posted April 6, 2002 Author Posted April 6, 2002 Can someone help me or am I just a lost cause? Do you have to be a programmer or something to host a game? I only have minimal computer knowledge.

Lukesky29 Posted April 6, 2002 Posted April 6, 2002 I have the exact same problem any time I want to host a server for my friends....and they all have the same problem 2.....so now I know its not just me.... ~Lukesky29 P.S. Bump means to move the thread back to the top forum....hence the name Bump
Lukesky29 Posted April 7, 2002 Posted April 7, 2002 ~Bump~ Hopfully someone will see this and know how 2 fix....
NeoNinja Posted April 10, 2002 Posted April 10, 2002 OK... this is what I was told, but I haven't had a chance to test it out... 1. If you are connected to a router, disconnect and have a straight modem-to-pc connection. Then, before you start up Jedi Outcast, go to "Start", "Run" and type "WINIPCFG". Write down the IP number it tells you. 2. Start up Jedi Outcast and select "Create Server", "Dedicated Server: NO", Name your server, then "Begin" 3. Now, direct your friends to "Join" server. Then, where it says internet, have them change it to "Favorites" and finally have them click on "Add Favorites. They should be able to type in your IP number and then "join" your server. Like I said, I haven't had a chance to try this yet but I am dying to know if it works. I have a Linksys 4 port router, but I am not computer literate enough to go in and start configuring the damn thing. Personally, I think that if games are going to have multiplayer capabilities they should make it as simple as possible... or at least provide a multiplayer handbook that can walk you through the process for estabilishing/joining servers for different config scenarios. Please post and let me know if this works for you. Neo
VFX001 Posted April 13, 2002 Posted April 13, 2002 I've been going crazy trying to host games as well. I'm not a first timer. Q3A and UT were easy. My brother is 3000 miles away...I've given him my ip number and server name...we don't turn up in the list. I had him try hosting, the same. I'm running on XP and don't have a switcher or router in line. Are we getting any closer to figuring this out?
VFX001 Posted April 14, 2002 Posted April 14, 2002 I'm replying to my own post....unfortunately without an answer. Is the only way anyone will see my server name is if it's a dedicated one? I've tried giving people my IP but that doesn't work either. What amazes me is that so many people have this problem, but I've heard no solutions. Does anyone read these post other than moderators and users? I've had the game for a week and I can't host a game. ps I have no router or switcher between modem and network card. I have no problems joining servers in the list.
trenahk Posted April 14, 2002 Posted April 14, 2002 Yes NeoNinja, that solution works. I've been doing that since i got the game, so i could play with my other SW freinds. To anyone else that trys this and other people cant find the game, its the other persons fault. They are probley just not looking in the 'favorites' folder in the 'all' game type. just have them double check and it should work. if they cant get it to work, have them host a game and you try it. its never failed for me. whenever i host a MP game people usually join. so i guess they can see my server:P your freinds just cant see the name of your game cause they probley connected to a diffrent server. i never really figured out why i coudlnt find freinds games. Incase you have no idea what the F.U.C.K. im talkin about.. just read NeNinja's post above. ------------------- On another subject. im pissed off.. windows xp screwed up my game! i installed JKII on windows 98 and later upgraded to windows xp, and now i get some crappy error that wont let me play MP or SP games.... ARGH!! :fett: :fett: :fett:

Hmm, if this is for a LAN, you may need to assign a static IP address to the Card, unless one of you is running a DHCP server to assign an IP address to y0our machines........
