Temperamental
Ok, well, first here are my system specs (keep in mind I do NOT plan on getting a new computer and I can not buy any more peripherals as I have already bought enough): AMD K6-2 550 Mhz 256 MB SDRAM 64 MB PCI Geforce 2 Video Card Windows 98 My problem is this: I have REALLY low fps in huge outdoor areas, but amazing FPS in indoor areas. In corridors it's probably around 60 or more.. I am not sure the exact FPS. When I am in outdoors my FPS just slumps down and the game just gets all choppy. I have all the newest drivers for everything on my computer and I even run NVMAX in the background to make my geforce run faster...I also run on the lowest settings in JO. Help me please? I can run Max Payne and other high end games fine, even in really big gunfights, games like those run fine. And I can run Elite force perfectly. HC - Exar Kun
Try running at 800 x 600.... with 16-bit Color and Textures People seem to get the best overall fps that way... On a HIGH end system ( 1g + 256mb RAM or better ) You should be able to run at 1024x768 At anywhere from 40fps - 60fps But I would still reccomened 16 bit Color and Textures... Temperamental
Yeah, I run at 640x480 though.. Shouldn't I be getting better FPS with lower resolutions?... And I do run on 16 bit colors and all.
MadAtGod
That's just that older CPU forming a bottleneck =( It's holding back the full power of that gfx card, even if it is PCI. It's nice and smooth indoors, and when you look at the ceiling for instance cause the card has what it needs in vram and is taking the load, once it's loaded you'll get 60 fps as long as you don't move =) As soon as you throw in scripts and AI calculations combined with insane geometry and larger areas, then that poor processor has to think. Elite and Max Payne are kinda segmented and closed off, loading in nice sized parts...Jedi seems to load the whole map at the start and rely on the gfx ram and disk caching. It's nice to not have the Half Life quicky loads every 20 seconds but you gotta have horsepower or patience. The Q3 engine aint exactly built for bigger outdoor maps either, and I don't think it makes good use of Hardware T&L if at all. Those curved surfaces take a bastard of a calculator. But if you turn can get the curves a little chunkier, keep your vsync off, and turn your model detail to medium maybe high it should be much better. In Q3 you can scale architecture curves and turn off model curves. Maybe someone knows for sure but the jk2config.cfg has only these: seta r_lodCurveError "250" seta cm_playerCurveClip "1" Try setting the first one to 1000, the other I dunno. But really if you wanna play games the rest of the year and turn settings up instead, go to http://www.pricewatch.com You can get a socket A Athlon 950 with a good motherboard and fan for $99 right now. You could sell the mobo & cpu you have for $50 at least, keep using all your other stuff, and be cruising for the price of one game.
