Save game probs

When I load load up a saved game I experience a lot of video problems the game becomes jerky even though it was fine in the same places before. The only way i seem to be able to get round this is if I load an older save from a different location, then load the save game I actually want, and then it's OK again. This is all very well but I hope there is a better way of getting round this.....
