BrainStorm
Most games allow you to set the amout of space and the length of time that player messages stay onscreen. Is there an option for this in JKII? I know I can bring up the console but that takes you too far away from the game.
ScribeJC
Ya, I find it too short too. You inspired me to get off my butt and dig through Quake 3 console commands. It's: con_notifytime Followed by a space and a number. 3 seconds is default, mine is now set to 6. --JC
ScribeJC
Dang. It doesn't seem to want to stick. Always goes back to 3. I'm gonna try and put it in my autoexec.cfg file. set con_notifytime 6 -JC
BrainStorm
Thanks, I will try that. Did you find a way to get it to stick? Where do you look up all this quake 3 console stuff anyway?
ScribeJC
Yes, putting it in an autoexec.cfg file in the game data/base directory does make it stick. Do you have one? If not, just start up notepad, type "set con_notifytime 6" , save it as "autoexec.cfg" -- you'll have to rename it "autoexec.cfg" again because notepad will want to make it "autexec.cfg.txt" . You can put all sorts of things in that file and it forces the game to run it. Again, make sure it's in the BASE folder. As far as Quake 3 console commands... they're EVERYWHERE. I just did a google search for the previous phrase and got pages of references. I don't even remember which page I ended up looking at. I suppose there's a section at PlanetQuake where it's all nice and organized. You don't even need someone else's list, however. There's one that comes with every Quake 3 based game. In the console type: cvarlist ...and they all get listed. Use page up and down to scroll through them. Just be careful what you mess with. If you ever botch something bad, you can delete the jkmpconfig.cfg file and start all over again. Or make sure to back it up before you tinker. This also works for bindlist -- which is handy if you forget some obscure binding you've done. At least I think it's "cvarlist." It might be "listcvar." It's one of the two. Probably should go look that up.... -JC
