freeze at white screen during startup

I think i have the same problem as you .... maybe !

seems that i have problems with the Loader .... and not only with this game. I have also noticed this problem with Medal of Honor.

with JK2 i installed it ... had a few graphical glitches ... thought that if i restart the computer ... tune down the settings a bit and try again it would be fine .. but after i rebooted and loaded the game again ... i got through the console loading (right after double clicking the icon) and it went to a beige/tan color screen, where i had a cursor that did move, and that was it ... it went no further ....

that is the exact same problem i have with Medal of Honor ..... froze at the same point ....

please .... if anyone knows what the problem could be .... let us know ...

thanks ...

I have had exactly the same problem with Quake III Arena, MoH and now JKII. It seems that the system has crashed (no hard drive activity). What worked for me involves leaving the comp for about 10 mins, then it seems to just suddenly wake up and continue loading. This has worked for all games running on the Q3 engine. Just leave it for 10-15 and it should load. If not, then by all means, throw your computer accross the room in a violent rage :p

Have you realized that in the age of computers .... 30 seconds is a hell of a long time .... i dont know about anyone else here ... but if i have to wait any more than a minute for anything to load i uninstall ....

Please ... does anyone have any kind of fix for this where i wont have to wait "a lifetime" ????

I have the same problem too. When trying to run either MP or SP, it would just get into a white screen where the mouse can move around. No hard drive activity, No CD activity.

AMD Athlon 1.4GHz

512MB DDR RAM

GeForce2 MX 400 video card

Windows XP Pro

Tried:

- Reducing color dept 32 -> 16 bit

- Got latest drivers* (sound)

- Reinstall software multiple times. Scan disk and defragged.

When I use the latest Nvidia Detonator Driver, I would get into the white screen and the mouse would freeze. With the WQHL driver, I would get into the white screen, but the mouse moves around.

Anyone else?

Didn't wait for 10-15 minutes though... I hope that isn't the answer. The last time I had to do that was with an XT computer.

BTW: The game works fine on my brother's Intel P3 system without any patches and first try. Is it an AMD thing?

Help?

I've having the same problem. What really pissed me off was that I got about half way through the game. I'm also really pissed at Lucas Arts. About 4 days ago, I sent the tech support ppl an email and still haven't heard anything. So much for 24-48 hour support. You'll also won't get any help here. I've posted my problem before and hardly anyone has a good suggestion.

P.S. how do I get the d--- sig to work?

I dont think It's an AMD thing cause my buddy who has the game is using a Athlon XP 1700 with a GeForce 3.

im using a Duron 750 and GeForce 2

I have the problem but he dosn't. ... there has to be someone who can break this down to find an answer ...

as far as i can see its not actually the game itself ... its the LOADER.... that damn little program that loads all the textures and **** in the little window just befor the game actually launches ....

anyone care to elaborate on what problems this program can produce ...

I have the opposite of DreadX, I have a duron 650 with geforce2 gts 32m. My buddy has a 1.3 Athlon with a geforce 2 pro (not sure vid mem), Mine runs fine, not one problem, his locks at the white screen. Tried multiple drivers, from the latest, to 23.11 to 26.53. I'm running with the 26.53 drivers and its all fluid. Both machines running winxp, I have 640m ram and he has 512m ram. The real difference in our hardware, he has a SB Live sound card and I have a SB AWE64 Gold card. Both machines are running with the default winxp drivers, he is going to check with SB site to see if there is an XP specific driver that might solve this. His machine also locks up in other games as well.

This is just a bit of information added to help in trouble shooting problems.

 That sucks though... a brand new game and it won't work on my computer.

I just installed Dungeon Siege and it worked fine the first try.

I have a Soundblaster Live and is using the latest XP driver from SoundBlaster. Maybe it's something with the soundcard?

Did anyone else try the 10-15 minute load thingy? I didn't try it yet... but want to know if other people were able to do it by just waiting.

  • 3 weeks later...

you wouldnt believe it! i upgraded my CPU today from P3 450 to P3 933 and now my PC freezes on the white screen! wtf is all i can say! although im thinking it may be a ram issue - i have 512mb of ram and 256 (2 x 128mb sticks) of it is PC100, the other 256mb is PC133. im gonna remove the PC100 and give it a shot with the 133 only (seeing as though the 933 is a 133mhz chip) - its the only thing i can think of?! :(

Same as you, but if I spend an afternoon trying it, I will on rare, blessed occaision, get in. Once in, the game runs smooth as silk. However, I don't think trying it 10 or 15 times to get in is what any of us has in mind. I have the WHQL drivers, and the mouse stays active, though the rest of the system is locked tight. I may try the 26.35s, which I haven't yet, and removing a stick of ram to see if it might be the culprit, although I have no trouble with any other FPS game, Wolfenstein is solid as heck.

My system:

Antec KS-280 300W PS

8K7A

1.2 Ghz Athlon

256M Micron 2100 DDR

256M Crucial 2100 DDR

eVGA GF4 4400 Ti

Maxtor 30G 7200

HP 9350i CD-RW

Memorex CD-ROM

SB Live X-gamer

2 NICs

D-Link

Linksys

Win98 SE

I don't know, but I sure do HOPE the patch does it. I even tried removing the extra stick of RAM, and tried each of them. The only thing I can think of left to try is to remove my SB Live card and go with the on-board sound, which is now disable, of course.
