Forgen
I'm having a frustrating problem where my computer is spontaneously restarting at random intervals, usually roughly 10-15 minutes, during the 4th level (the Mines Prison). I've read through all of the posts under freezing, but even after trying some of their fixes (such as driver changes, and disabling GL extensions), I am having no luck. I will be playing smoothly, when the computer does a hard restart (or soft... same as if I'd reached down and hit the button, whatever that is). I'm running the following setup: PIV 1700 Mghz 256 MB Rambus PC800 ASUS Geforce 3 v8200 with ASUS v14.62 (nVidia referance have been tried) DirectX 8.1a If anybody has any ideas on this, I'm all ears. -=Forgen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -=-=Update=-=- After Exitium's excellent deduction, I realized that I had disabled the memory dump, so my computer was just restarting due to a critical crash. I went and disabled the automatic restart so I could read the error, and it was in my sound driver! Since I'd enabled OpenAL surround sound via the s_UseOpenAL cvar, I turned it off and no more crashes since then. The surround sound isn't quite as nice, but now it's stable . Exitium
I'm sorry (or perhaps glad, because we can assimilate the problem) to tell you that you're having the same freeze issue as everyone in the Freezing thread. Your computer rebooting itself is the result of WindowsXP realizing that it has crashed and is unable to return to operating mode, so it reboots the computer for you. It does that for me, too, when I have the "enable error log" setting turned on.
