Kicking!

Works best if you run forward toward the other player and then just a slight tap on the jump button. Knocks them down and does 20 damage.

Try this:

Switch to strong saber stance then switch the saber off

Run in and kick a player

While they are down, run in and swipe for the kill.

Looks cool if you time it right.

Oh, that is completely untrue. Just ask [PMV] Doc Jay, whom I defeated last night in a no force duel by using only the kick....and then went on to use it religiously simply to piss him off.

I was going to post something about this after last night, so I'll tack it on here:

Kicking is very, very effective in dueling, since it is actually faster than any saber attack you have. This makes it the best counter to another attack. For instance, it's really hard to get in and hit after the heavy stance's leap attack, because the blade still kills in 1 hit if you get parried as the guy's getting up. The kick works much better than anything in that situation, along with many others for the heavy stance.

The problem with it is that it requires timing. You can't just run right for the guy and try to kick. You'll get smoked. The best way to do it is to wait for somebody to switch up to heavy stance, then go in right after they miss a big swing (and are out of the animation window for the leap attack). If you stay on target, you should be able to kick them just before they can bring their attack around, even if they switch up stances. This is also the best way to knock them down, since this doesn't always happen.

Also, since I've seen a lot of this I think it needs to be corrected:

NEVER USE THE HEAVY STANCE TO HIT SOMEBODY ON THE GROUND

It is simply too slow. Anybody who is halfway competent will have gotten up and rolled out of the way by the time your attack lands...and leaves you vulnerable. For instance, if you get in a saber lock, immediately switch to medium stance while you hammer on the attack button. The way to kill people on the ground is tricky, and needs to be done with medium or fast, depending on how much health the other guy has. If they're weak, you just need the one diagonal slash (hold forward and left or right), but if they're reasonably strong you need the medium stance to do a diagonal slash followed immediately by the spin attack as they get to their feet.

And if you buy the whole Psychology angle, finishing somebody off with a kick is the coolest and most humiliating way to defeat them...

Does this mean Ann Margeret isn't coming?

I have used kick to wonderful effect. I use the medium stance, and if you time it right you can clobber even fully shielded opponents, and outright kill non shielded. Charging straight at the enemy is dumb, as is prancing around trying to create an opportunity. The best idea is to not rely heavily on kick, and change tactics constantly. If you see an opening to deliver a kick, take it. I like to throw one in after using force powers alot as the enemy doesnt expect me to wade in. Most players IMO either use saber virtually exclusive (cept with push) or use force powers heavily with saber to finish. By acting one way, then switching to another, it throws the opponent off balance allowing me to deliver a nice kick and coup de grace. Also great for those who rush alot. Just stay in ready stance, they run in and you parry, delivering a kick and then finish them.

dkc4c, you can only tap the jump button, which is the whole trick behind pulling the kick off. It's the same sort of light tap you need to do the heavy stance's leap attack. If you hold the button down you'll just jump over the guy and possibly into his saber.

Actually, I havent timed this, but turning off your saber and pressing forwards+attack does a stab thats INSANELY fast. Ive used this to great effect in duels.

That works with the saber on as well. Stand still, then forward+attack and you get some kind of speed lunge. On medium stance it does substantial damage as well. I have finished people off this way.

I have trouble getting this move to work.

While i'm not 100% sure that this will work in a bot match, if you use devmap then \notarget then the bots (at least in single player npc spawning) cannot see you. then its really easy to test out new things on them.

hmmm, using a kick when people use that heavy jump swing....hmmmmm

sounds good, I will be trying that. I cant find an effective saber only counter to that due to that bug.

and noticed somone metioning turning off saber for a front quickstab. This also works for backstab and any other swing as well...

however remeber walking around without your saber active means you are defenseless to a saber throw..other stuff you can get around with force

I don't think the kick works in SP (you have to jump on their head instead), but it's very easy to practice it against bots as they tend not to be able to avoid it (like a human player can). If it helps you can load a MP map by typing "devmap ffa_bespin" at the console and then typing "god", this will let you try it out without taking damage.
