Guest toms
right... i can get one of 2 pcs (from the same manufacturer) 1 is a P4 1.6 with 256mb SDram and a geforce3 Ti200 64mb 2 is a P4 2.0 with 256mb DDR and a geforce4 MX 460 64mb price is identical, give or take a few quid, and as far as i can tell everything elseabout the systems s identical (DVD, CDR, winXP, *)gb HD) my question is, which would be the better investment? not just for JKII btw, for games and general usage, but mainly games. I hear that the gf3 would probably be better than the gf4mx (although both should be fine for a while) but is it worth trading down to sdram and a p4 1.6 for? When i upgrade in a year or so, is it gonna be cheaper/easier to upgrade the graphics card, or the processor and memory (and motherboard i guess?). I am buying on friday, so if anyone who KNOWS about these things could give me any advice before then it would be very helpful. I am currently leaning towards system 2 as i fuigure it will last longer. tomS
D.L.
The second one. The memory is faster plus the Graphics card is better.
cqdemal
D.L., I think you are fooled by the name GeForce4... GeForce4 MX cards aren't as good as GeForce3 cards! GF4MX lacks the DX8 shader the GF3s and GF4Tis have. IMO, get the 2nd one then put the GF4MX460 on sale. And get the GeForce4 Ti 4400. Don't worry, it's quite cheaper than the 4600 one. BTW, upgrading in a year? Then you better wait 'til around the end of this year. Get the AMD ClawHammer (that's a codename) instead. The thing's got both 64-bit and 32-bit processing capabilities! Think Pentium 4 and Itanium all in one! *drools*
seanMO
The second one: reasons are faster CPU, and faster memory. Even though the vid card on the second one is inferior to the first one (dont be be fooled by gforce4 MX vs. geforce 4ti) I assume that these systems having a P4 that the motherboards are not integrated so you can always get a better video card later if you want.
