I get the following error message on startup from the console:

Could not open string package 'CON_TEXT'

I checked and the file CON_TEXT.SP is in the \base\assets1\strip directory.

Any ideas as to what I can do to get the game running? Thanks.

I get the same problem - sometimes. Haven't been able to successfully start either SP or MP yet. At first I got an error similar to one I get with Elite Force - "could not load default.cfg". Some ST:V EF tech help forums said that was because of installation to root c:\, which is not the case with either game for me. Seems like if I custom-install to something like c:\pc games\outcast, I get the default.cfg error, but if I automatically install to c:\program files\... I get that CON_TEXT error. Sometimes, although I can't discern a pattern, after clicking on the "single player" button, the system hangs for maybe 30 seconds before giving the error, "could not find/load/locate [i paraphrase] MSVFW32.DLL". This file is in my windows\system dir as I recall.

I'm 'running' WinXP home, AthlonXP 1700+, Asus A7V 266-E mobo, new machine, etc etc. Thinking of going back to Win98SE - less stable but more functional, am I right?

I got a reply from techsupp@lucasarts.com, suggesting I open MSCONFIG and under the selective startup tab, un-check "load start group" stuff. Tried that, uninstalled and reinstalled both custom and auto, same errors as above resulted.

I dunno... maybe the Force is just not strong with me. Maybe this is how young Jedi begin towards the Dark Side...

What version of the game do you have? American? Euro?
