Voodoo 3 users (and owners of other Voodoo cards), read this

I apologize for this being mentioned so many times already, but I thought that it should bare mentioning again because I believe it is very important for Voodoo users:

If you're a Voodoo 3 user, Jedi Knight 2 WILL run for you just fine if you use the WickedGL drivers.

Here's my experience:

I bought Jedi Knight 2 yesterday. I tried running it on my system using the regular Voodoo 3 drivers. In case you're wondering, my system specs are as follows:

Intel Celeron 1000 MHZ

Voodoo 3 AGP (obviously)

256MB RAM

Windows 98

Sound Blaster 16 PNP

Direct X 8.1

Now, when I tried running the game using the regular Voodoo 3 drivers, I got messed up textures, long loading times, etc. (the usual problems reported from Voodoo users). I then went to the WickedGL website and downloaded the WickedGL drivers at http://www.wicked3d.com/products/wickedgl/default.htm.

After I downloaded the WickedGL drivers,

1) I went into the dir where I installed Jedi Knight 2 and found the file jk2sp.exe, and I renamed it quake3.exe

2) Then I ran the WickedGL control panel, and told it to look for the game Quake 3 in my Jedi Knight 2 directory.

3) It told me it had found a copy and asked me if I wanted to install the MiniGL driver there, so I clicked OK.

4) I closed the WickedGL control panel, went back into my Jedi Knight 2 directory and renamed quake3.exe back to its original name (jk2sp.exe).

5) Then I ran the game like normal and was in for a pleasant surprise. Multiplayer mode was fixed as well automatically when doing the above steps.

I did not discover those steps above, so I do not deserve credit for them. I'm just reposting them for Voodoo 3 users.

Speaking of the Voodoo card, the above steps should also work with the other Voodoo cards as well. I even read a thread where someone got it to work with a Voodoo Banshee card!!!!

Have fun, and if you have trouble with these steps, don't hesitate to e-mail me at ruley@msn.com. I'll be glad to help!

Hi, I have a voodoo 3. The single player runs fine, but when i try MP it will let me set everything up, but then when i click go or launch or whatever it is, the menu becomes blocky, and is impossible to read and the game play goes to a crawl, like 1 frame every ten seconds or summat really stupid.

Will using thwe wicked GL thing work???

Do i just use the demo version of wicked GL???

Yes, the WickedGL drivers should work, and yes, the demo version of Wicked GL should be all you need. That's what I used.

thx a lot for relaying that method to this forum, was very helpful and will increase my enjoyment of the game a lot.

My pleasure! I think Lucasarts should make this known as much as possible.

Tried it and it works fine now :)

Still need to sort out zone alarm so i can play MP with ppl, not on my own with bots though. lol

Thanks!!!

Glad to hear it works! Instead of playing through the Zone, why not just play it directly in the internet list in the game itself? Less lag that way.:)

Tanx a lot for the tip. I got my Voodoo2 to run Jedi Knight II. Sys specs: celeron 333 voodoo2 12 mb 196 mb RAM. I wonder if any one has tried this trick with Medal of Honor: Allied Assault...?

Awesome to hear you got it to work with the Voodoo 2! Amazing. How does it run on that? As for MOH: Allied Assault, indeed this same method works, and it works great!

This wicked GL thing seems very exciting-tho im afraid to try it since i got jk to run by installing some newer voodoo3 drivers. Is it worth 'the risk' to try the wicked GL thing? will all the things that piss me off (menus looking crappy, slow load times, pre rendered movies not working, multi player menus blurry etc be fixed?

I am running my voodoo 5500 PCI normally, textures, FPS and everything are fine once the game runs. However after i load the game 1 to 2 times, I have to exit and restart the game to load again or it freezes at 25%

I tried wickedgl but it actually just made all the loading times double. Running it at 800x600 so i shouldn't do the high res one right? I manually altered my virtual memory instead of letting windows handle it and that seemed to fix it somewhat..

AMD Athlon 1.2 ghz

Voodoo 5500 PCI

Page file = 256 mb

256 PC100 Ram
