I can't get out =( (early game spoiler?)

I've just spoken to Luke and it says my mission is to get my saber. But I can't find the freckin' exit. I've been walking around in this hellhole for half an hour now, tried to fly every X-wing at the dock, smashed some glass-screens and scared the bejesus out of a C3PO wannabe. How do I get out of here?

Go to the main area (where you'll find 2 machine guns and a huge force field that blocks the way to the stars). Take either the left or the right elevator. There are two buttoms which open the three huge metal doors.

 

There are 3 rooms:

-one with the ship with which you landed

-one with an imperial ship

-one with nothing but boxes

 

In one of the rooms, look far up to the celing. There is a vent. In one of the rooms, you can jump up there.

XManny is thinking of the asteroid level.

 

What YOU want is to go up to the second level (I believe) (above the hangar bay), and take the door rather than the elevator there. That will lead you outside.
