Editing npc.cfg -- how to use it in game

If I make edits to npc.cfg, how do I then incorporate it into the game? Re-Zip the entire assets0.pk3 file or simply name it newconfig.pk3 and zip it up?

 

Any help would be appreciated.

zip the new npcs.cfg into a new pk3 and the game will automatically run with your modifications
