Disrespect
Ok i did not make these i have ripped them off of others . but i copyed all the stuff i have found that helped me and put them on my puter for fast reference . When i first loaded jk2 i had so many problems . like 10 fps and it sounded like jan had a studdering problem . basically the game was unplayable . well since i made the changes that i made i have enjoyed almost flawless game play . very smooth and the sound is great . i wish i could give credit to the people that helped me , but i forget who posted and where i got them , but i think it was at rage3d forum under pc gaming . i also posted this in that 6 page thread , but figured it might help people more here . Open the jk2config (located in the GameData/Base dir) and edit the line: seta s_UseOpenAL "0" to : seta s_UseOpenAL "1" open the jk2config file in the BASE folder of the directory, and change/ add this stuff seta s_khz "44" ............old value was 22( hz sound quality ) seta s_mixPreStep "0.0"..........these 2 cause the stuttering, change seta s_mixahead "0.2"...........them to this, to remove all stutter! seta com_soundMegs "32" seta com_hunkMegs "128".......added these myself via wolf recomended seta cg_runpitch "0.000" seta cg_runroll "0.000" seta cg_bobup "0.000"................change to this, removes bobbing, seta cg_bobpitch "0.000"............increases framerate, and gives seta cg_bobroll "0.000".........you a smoother movement and mouselook seta com_maxfps "100"..........your refresh rate here for Vsync seta r_lodbias "0"........ below 0, looks wayy better, above 0, looks worse, but framerate goes up some... this is Level of Detail area. ( try from -1.5, to 1.5 ), in increments of .5's seta s_soundpoolmegs "32"........default was 24, more sound memory seta r_ext_texture_filter_anisotropic "0".............. change to "0", then enable Bi-Linear filtering, and your ddesired Aniso filtering via unituner or something to use ATI aniso filtering, which coul go to 128x via registry hack. <-- this is for radeon users if you didnt figure that out . i made these changes and all sound studdering went away . also make sure that very high detail is turned to just high detail that is a big 1 . hope this helps . peace
jasho
Nice post. I knew most of the settings, but did not try to figure out what they actually did and what it would fix. By the way, what are your system specs? It would be reallh nice to know if some of these changes will work or if it is hardware related (i.e. the system is too old and needs to upgrade). Does the sound quality actually get re-sampled to 44kHz or does it just allow that value to entered? I have also read from RAVEN FAQ that OpenAL is not fully tested so some people may get problems with this enabled. If you set maxfps to "0" then there would be no fps cap which I believe may be different than Vsync, but I may be wrong if someone could correct me on this. Could someone please elaborate on what lodbias does? And anisotropic filtering is really only needed for GeForce3 cards and above or equivalent thereof (e.g. ATI) and may not hinder performance because all it does is re-blend (un-blend) the textures that bi- or tri- linear filtering does. Thanks! P.S. The hunkmegs should be set to 1/2 total RAM and soundmegs should be ~1/4 the total RAM. DO NOT SET SOUNDMEGS AND HUNKMEGS TO 1/2 EACH OR YOU WILL RUN OUT OF RAM FOR THE OS!!!!! Disrespect
my sys specs are . amd athlon 1.2 asus a7m266 mobo 256 pc2100 ddr ram radeon 7500 290/229@310/245 sb live 5.1 ! logitech mouseman plus optical 5 button logitech itouch keyboard win 98se for gaming win xp pro for ****s and giggles! now i know that the openal is supose to be for the audigy cards or what ever , but i enabled it . works good for me . i also increased the sound quality to 44khz , this does help . it helped on my friends system and he has onboard soundcard . kinda made the sound crisper . i noticed a difference when giving the sound more memmory You are right about the hunkmegs i forgot to add that it should only be half your ram . oops ! now the maxfps i set to 100 . it doesnt go above or below that either . unless its a complex area with a ton of people shooting at me . then it gets a little stuttery till everything on the screen is loaded , i guess . normally the stuttering goes away prett fast . as for nvidia cards i am not a fan of them . i bought a tnt2 when they came out and it blew chuncks compared to my vd3 at the time . i bought a gf2 mx 400 ( Before reading about the card ) :/. and what a peace of junk , OFF THE SUBJECT > my radeon 7200 blew that card away . the radeon 7200 was clocked at 155/155 and the gf2 mx 400 was clocked at like 200/350 or something . and the radeon blew it away in every aspect . i have a radeon 7500 now and this thing rocks . i will be getting the 8500 or 10000 or whatever when it comes out . nividia wants way to much money for cards that ati can compete with . ( sorry_off subject) . anyways . i really dont know what some of that stuff does . but i will say this . there is a ton of stuff in that config file . and before you mess with it write down what you change and what the value was or you might screw stuff up :/. sorry i didnt post that before :/. but i notice a huge difference from before and after . before i tweaked anything i was about to unistall and wait for a patch to come out . the game ran so bad that i would fall off the edge at the begging from video and sound lag .
