TarzanBoy
Heres the skinny: Original Problem My game WAS crashing and/or freezing at distinct points in the single player game. It either: 1. Froze and did a sound loop 2. Crashed with this error JK2S has caused an invalid page fault in gamex86.dll It would tend to crash when npc (non-playable characters ala Luke, Desann, Jedi guys) with light sabers were spawned by the game (like when Desann first kicks your butt) or by me (via cheat codes). I'd checked the file sizes of jk2s.exe and jk2gamex86.dll to see if they were corrupt, but everything seemed to be in order. Solution First, I replaced my CD-ROM, since it is finicky about which CD's it likes, and sometimes takes a long time to spin CD's up and read them. Then, at Noodlygod's suggestion, I uninstalled the game, copied the entire CD to my hard drive, and reinstalled from my hard drive. This totally solved my crashing/freezing problem. Afterthoughs If you are having a freeze problem, or a loop problem, it is probably the result of a corrupted file, driver, or link library in your install directory. A file can be corrupted and still display the correct file size, so you can't rely on that to check. I clearly had a bad installation of JK2 that was causing my problems. It was *not* my video card drivers at all. My setup: PIII 450 MHz 256MB RAM Win98; DirectX 8.1 Visiontek TNT2 M64 (23.11 Drivers) Aztech SC-128 Sound card (piece o'****) Please note: I have never had any problems in Multiplayer. If your multiplayer works as it is supposed to, but your single player has problems like mine did, then there is a good chance you have the same problem that I had. I hope that this post helps a LOT of people, or at least lends some insight as to what might be causing some of these problems. I still think that Raven needs to come out and say either 1. There is a recognized problem (even if its diff than the one I had) 2. They haven't found a problem (it could possibly be something that they have no control over, i.e. bad CD's etc)
