apco25
I started this because there is no concise breakdown of how to fix the Multiplayer problem with Dual CPUs in Outcast. Also, I'm not sure what happened to the "Dual CPUs????" forum link. I can only get to it from a link. Anyway, this is not an AMD/Intel problem. If you have dual CPUs and Windows 2000 or Windows XP pro you may have a problem running Multiplyer in Outcast. Doing many experements and looking on Forums, here is what I found (Both Ways worked for me): There are two ways to fix this. Option 1). Change to Single Processor HAL. Here is the XP version. Windows 2000 is easy since you can change back and forth by just changing the driver: 1.1). (Best) - Click on My Computer and Press F1. Go to system restore. If you are lucky and have a restore point before going to single processor. You can restore it. After getting to Dual, I manually make a restore point. Then I can switch back and forth between Dual and Single processors. Back up your JKII saves and config rules! It will "restore" those as well. 1.2). If you changed the way your restore points are made or don't have a good restore point. Install windows XP. Then when it asks for SCSI devices (F6) Press F5. If you need SCSI drivers press F6 after F5. You will then be asked for the Hal type. You will need to scroll to the setting (I believe PG up/DN). Select Dual ACPI or whatever works for your system. Then Click fix installation. I think you will have to re-install the XP web updates but not your programs. OPTION 2). Use Raiden's loader. On the other Forum, he was last updating this. Here is the latest as of 4-16-02: http://www.htwm.de/~sdoempke/loader2f.rar 2.1) Use winrar (http://www.rarsoft.com) to "unzip" loader2f.exe into the same directory as the Outcast multiplayer executable. 2.2). To run, simply double click on loader2f.exe and it will execute the multiplyer version of Outcast (hopefull without the startup error!). Thanks Raiden! These options both worked for me. I hope this helps someone. OPTION 3). Wait for patch... Who wants to wait for that? They don't even address this issue on the Lucas Arts web site! apco25@yahoo.com
