shred_lord
Hey, nice . Had a go myself (first time on a 3D prog ever!) If your interested Click Here and hit the lightsabre link. Took an hour or so, but it's fairly useless. the polly count is astronomical (won't embaris myself by reveiling it ) and also, (I've only just reallised) I have no idea how big it is! It could be the size of LONDON!!!!! Oh, and there's a pic of a guy in a robe (well just the robe) I've been playing about with. Got stuck at the arms. Mind you, for all I know it might be the size of the sun!
CheshireKat
Looks good L2.0, though a bit bland. I know lightsabers are kinda hard to make look a whole lot different, but maybe you could add a little flair some how.

Like I said it was a first attempt and took 13 minutes. But I have alot planned so far. Also, most of my sabres will be rather blandish, as the skins will provide the detail for them. And, in all actuality, this is only 1/2 of the sabre. It's actually a dual saber that comes apart. (But more info on that once I get our mod's site up!) Anyone happen to know a way to get pics from MilkShape? Or should I use one of my other program instead? (3D Studio MAX 4, SoftImage XSI, Cinema 4D XL r7, Truespace or Maya.) L2.0
Okay, here's the count for all 3 so far. Model 01: Vertices: 1226 Triangles: 2364 Model 02: Vertices: 1159 Triangles: 2244 Model 03: Vertices: 1303 Triangles: 2460
BloodRiot
They look good L2.0... but i think the poly count is going a bit steep. I try stay away from those values for a full body model. Try optimizing them... i'm sure you could maintain shape and significantly reduce the poly count. Be good.
Guest seantree
whoa, as far as i know the saber counts are around 500 polygons. You may wanna cut that down a bit. Try using less sides on your cylinders.
shred_lord
Hey guys. Though my sabre was a spontanious (sp?) thing, it did turn out a bit like a park sabre, (the Malestrom I think), It also kinda incorporates features from classic trilogy sabres. If you want a custom sabre model though I'd go for L2.0's (turning out lovely btw ) because...... Faces 5020 Vertices 2806 Hehehehehe. Still it was more a test to learn how to use gmax. Oh does anyone know what the distance units are in gmax? I'ld love to know if the thing is 360 cm long of 360 km long Or does it not matter? sithlord-II
yeah those poly counts are pretty high for a sabre i believe best way to hide the poly count is to just use well shaded textures and on some of the long parts make them 5-8 sided polys, that will really help in areas such as the studded handle keep it as is, or perhaps make it say 8 sides with the studs being seperate boxes with the inner poly cut out, and going into the handle they look very cool nonetheless but really how often do you actually see the sabers in-game? they're always in the dude's hands, so alot of details can be done with just textures
L2.0
Yeah Sith, that's why my first one was so basic looking. I plan on 95% of my detailing being done in skins. And, I've never modeled anything before, so I have no idea what anything does yet other than the primitives. But I'm done with modeling today, as I need to get our Modsite up... sithlord-II
hehe i know man no worries all it takes is time and practice
toolboi
I have no ****ing clue if this would work but... what if you took a high detailed model, rendered it, then with some photoshop work turned the render into the texture for the actual model? Youd get a damn cool look...
MessiahErebus
i believe you can break the weapon models into more than one part (i.e. barrel, grip, etc. ) not sure about this though. I do no for certain, that no individual weapon model section can be over 1000 polys, or the game gives an error. At least it did back when i tried to import this model of a saber...(before i knew you needed the gdk/sdk for it).
sithlord-II
toolboi: that is actually a good way to texture map to save you some time in photoshop if you can't create the same effect as well it can work really well and creates the illusion of depth perfectly

FuShanks
Well, yeah, Doc. But that's what the project I'm working on calls for. P.S. I made it myself, slick. It's not ripped from the game.
