taboo
I hear your pain! I have a Duron 850 w/GF2 RTS and the best fps I can get on the jk2ffa mp demo w/Fastest settings (640*480) is 35 or so. From what I've seen and read, jk2 is extreeeemely cpu intensive.
R!zz0
It is CPU intensive, and also GFX card intensive (esspically on RAM). Your setup should be easily enough to get nice smooth FPS at 1024*768. I would suggest reinstalling your GFX card drivers.
Hiteche5
I suggest lowering some settings..sounds like you have 32 bit color on or 32 bit textures. Really you won't see that much of a diffrence. I have a 1 ghz PIII with a Geforce 2 mx and I get 80 fps indoors. Outside I dip down to around 40. I use simple shadows and 16 bit textures and color. CarlSagan
Turn down some detail settings. You shouldn't have to reduce the color depth, though (trust me, there is a MAJOR difference between 16 and 32 bit color). Try turning off volumetric shadows. Make sure you don't have full-scene anti-aliasing turned on (huge performance hit) in your video card settings. Turn of v-sync and see if it makes a big difference in your frame rate. I saw on a web site somewhere that there is a game setting (console only) that will change the vertical refresh rate of your monitor. Try and find that and make sure it is set to the highest your monitor supports in 1024x768. Now, you say you are having more problems in multiplayer, right? What sort of connection do you have? stellerwinds
its not just a matter of settings i have a geforce2 512 ram and multiplayer is barely tolerable all my settings are on the lowest possible and wether in sp or mp, large areas or many enemies make me nautious from the wretched framerate. my drivers are up to date and RTCW for example runs smooth as silk so whats the deal here, they are both using q3 technology why does JO run like pudding through a screen door? taboo
stellarwinds, what kind of cpu do you have? I'm running a duron 800 w/256MB PC133ram w/GF2 RTS vid. Here are a few benchmarks i ran to give you an idea of how a slow cpu will hold jk2 back. This was done on Win ME with Fastest JK2 settings and with the jk2ffa demo. 700mhz 32.9 fps 800mhz 35.4 fps 875mhz 38.9 fps
GRIMLOCK
lets put it this way in Q3A player models generaly stick to a 1k poly limit, as where in JK2 they go up to 2k+, wich can really wat those system resources. Textures in JK2 i am guessing may even be larger, not to mention JK2 had MANY more effects than reapeated gunshotts and whatnot, its got diferant fx for most of the weapons, as where Q3A only had a few differant fx for the whole set. and don't forget to throw in the skin texture size on the character and weapon models in JK2! so it figures JK2 will be eating up systems much faster than Q3A, RTCW even ate more than Q3A, and that was barely an upgrade to the engine. Mattman
Turning off anisotropic filtering in the "other video" menu helps a lot too... It's only a slight reduction in detail. With it on, your fps will plumet when facing an area with lots of surfaces that are at odd angles to you, since it has to process all the distance effects for those surfaces. twoshadows
GRIMLOCK is the only one who's come close to hitting it right here so far. The 3rd person view adds a few more thousand polys to any given scene and the guys at Raven went WAY over the 10 thousand poly limit on almost every map I've seen... now stick it on Jedi Knight mode and you get even MORE baddies comming at ya...increasing the poly count, killing your fps.. None of the original q3 maps come CLOSE to the amount of polys that Raven shoved into these maps... Of course, the comunity made q3 maps do not count, as most newbie mappers have no idea how to even check r_speeds. But, Raven shoulda known better
Jack_ass2002
you r playin multiplayer so who really gives a rats ass about 16 or 32 bit color! TURN IT DOWN TO 16 BIT UNLESS YOU R RUNNING 2.4 GHZ or ATHLON 2100 with gforce 4 ti 4600 300mhz, then theres no problemo. I myself run a 1.7 ghz wgforce3 ti500 and 512mb ddr and which runs beautifally with everything turned up. But multiplay is totally different as I still turn everything to the lowest settings! Beleive me you want every possible advantage when online wherever possible! HELL I still run quake 3 arena that way and get 120+ frames per second! Obviously the other posters on this FORUM like looking at the SCENERY and graphics and Getting their asses kicked in the process! You shouldnt care about graphics it still looks good on 640x480 16 bit color, beleive me! Your their to ream some asses!
Steg
ok.... im runnging latest nvidia drivers 09-03-2002 no FSAA no Volumetric Shadows and when i try 2 run a timedemo it loads fine....but then its dumps a few numbers and textures randomly on the loading screen and locks the machine up!!! that is annoying... ill try turning off Anstopic...or wot eva it is..filtering a c wot happens Steg
