I suck at lightsaber, need tips

I just finished the Nar Shaddaa levels and am having problems with lightsaber combat. Basically, I suck!!! Whenever I get up close to someone to try to slice them, they will move away and I will usually get blasted. When I try to throw the saber, they will usually get out of the way and blast me.

 

Now one-one-one combat is ok- usually I will force push or pull and run up and slice them. But when there is a whole bunch of enemies (especially those dudes with the thermal detonators) I will get creamed. Using force speed helps alot, but are there any tricks or techniques I can use to get better at lightsaber combat?

I use Jump a lot.

I also use the crouch and roll to get in close, then I just stand, face them, and swipe.

 

Those Grans are tough to kill at that level, I almost always push them down first, then jump, flip, land and swing. Then Jump again quick 'cause they generally drop a 'detonator when they die.

 

You can also Force Push their detonators back on them....if you're quick.

 

At that level, I think you only have the Blue stance (light), otherwise I'd suggest you hit 'L' to switch to Yellow (medium) as it packs a bit more punch.

 

Strafe swing as well, when you can, and only use Throw when they are all grouped together.

For that particular part, I tossed all the Thermal detonators I had up through the holes first, called the Elevator, put on Speed, and got up there as quick as I could by jumping when I was close enough. They were still dealing with my TD's when I got up there and it was relatively easy to take them out.

Also, to chain attacks, hold down the primary attack button as you move around.

 

And you start with medium, not fast.

i just dont stop moving, and when i do do not start swinging unless theres someone near you. Run up to them with sabre in ready position and then swing while runnning forward, you can also strafe and swipe as u will usually spin, an if ur lucky u can still deflect some of the shots with your wild swings. also try and use the jump and spin attack thing as it can usually confuse the enemy and leave you free to ram your blade through his head.

As fun as the lightsaber is, sometimes you have to switch th *gasp* a blaster. Personally, I like the secondary fire on the stormtrooper rifle to take out the Grans (the TD guys). It has a fast enough rate of fire that they get locked in place and have a hard time moving. I also like to throw them off ledges I'd rather fight AT-STs than the aliens.

I'm not a big fan of hack and slash lightsabre use, infact towards the last few levels of the game, almost every swing connected with enemies, it felt better and was easier then simple hacking and slashing. My favourite move was always the jump overhead and stab down, but my most used was a sideways slash where i would quickly rotate my facing 180 degrees at the first third of the slash then Kyle would whip the sabre from an almost light attack backward stab attack and whip it around the arc i just travelled, it does a lot of damage and takes down a lot of enemies particularly when you have to change direction very frequently. Anyway, learn to time your strikes and use various combos as well eg upward strike for quick attack etc..
