Ten Tigers
From what I understand, you can do it with photoshop. Which is kool. I got PS and can use it with fair proficiency. But that is all I know about it. I wouldnt even know where to start. I have some pretty kewl ideas for a Reborn and a Trandoshan repaint. Please either share some info with me step by step, or link to a tutorial. As it sits, I wouldnt even know what file to edit. Besides, I dont want to make something that overwrites the defaults. I want to know how to make default friendly skins. Thanx in advance for any and all help. If I ever get this going I will be sure to post them up. Ten Tigers
Damn, it's harder than I thought. Here is where Im at. Per the directions I opened the assets 0 file thingy and extracted all the player/models/reborn files into the base directory and it made the subfiles like it said it would. No sweat so far. I copied the default model file and renamed it like it said. eg, model_default_solo.skin, so no prob there. Then I did the same with the default icon file like it said. icon_default_solo. No problem. Now before I wasted 2-5 hours in photoshop, I copied the various parts and renamed them. eg, solo_face, solo_hands, etc... But didnt edit them. I just mix matched the various reborn parts so it would be obvious. You would have acrobat arms, boss torsos, forceuser hoods, etc... Well, in the player set up screen I saw the icon I made, but once I set up a server to test it, it no longer appeared. I left the game and went back to set up and manualy choose my icon, but it would still not appear in the game. If there is anything I can explain about my actions a little better, please let me know. P.S. It looks like it will be a very dastardly deed trying to repaint these things in Photoshop. Those skins look like abstract art and it is difficult to tell what part is what. And with the darker skins it is hard to tell where the edge of the skins are as the background is black... Is there a better program for painting? One that lets you paint while the skin is on the model perhaps?

About the better prog, i'm looking 4 one too.. , when the official model veiwer comes (not the SOFII one) you would be able to preveiw your work if it's that you mean.. Hope i could help// Picasso

Atreyu
I just posted a reply about this, but I'll repost it here for you. First of all, I wanted to say that if your icon is showing up on a server, chances are that it's not a pure server to begin with, otherwise your icon wouldn't show up at all. Read what I posted earlier below: "Okay, through my experience with this whole skinning thing, it's absolutely essential that you have your file paths correct. For instance: c:\program files\lucas arts\jedi outcast\game data\base\models\players\(your character name here) Once in your character's folder, make sure you have all the files you need. This includes all the modified jpgs and cfg files. ALSO important!!! Make sure you modify the model_default.skin (save under a new file though like model_default_hunk.skin). Hunk is the character I skinned so I'll use him as an example from now on. Wherever you see hunk, replace with your character's name. In the model_default.skin file (open with wordpad), make sure that the path of each line leads to your character's skin. Example: hips,models/players/hunk/legs_hunk.tga So in this case, replace 'hunk' with your character name. Do that for all of the lines in that default file and REMEMBER to save that file under a different name just for backup and reference purposes. Once you change all of those lines, save it out and test everything. If everything in the cfg files were changed correctly, it should work...all assuming that your skin files were renamed properly to match the cfg file. If you have any other questions, please ask! I'll do what I can to help. I'm stuck trying to get my Team FFA models to work right now."
SEPtIc cHiLD
ok tigers if Atreyu wasn't any help to you, if you think all your paths are spot on, read on. If I read you correctly your seeing your icon but not gettin the player once you enter the game. I had the same problem for ages when I followed the tutorial for the first time. Firstly the tutorial gives you impression that you can simply put a normal unzipped folder into the base directory and run the game and your skin will work. This never worked for me, I just got the icon, apparently it can work if you have your server set to unpure or some crap, but if thats what you were tryin..don't bother, much better zippin it up. ok zipping...if you ask me the tutorial actually over compicates the zipping up thing, makes it sound really tricky, it tells you to make sure you've checked "include sub paths all folders crap whatever", when it's actually dead easy. To cut a long story short I gave up on winzip, checked out a few sites and got cutezip instead. Maybe I'm just a spastic and winzip is perfectly fine, but cutezip is simplicity itself. Just right click your folder and zip it into pk3, no complicated options crap. Easy. I've never looked back. Anyway just thought I'd share the above with you cos I was banging me head off a wall a couple of weeks back same as you. Hope it was helpful. Ten Tigers
Thanx for the help guys. I havent been able to make time to work with my skin again but Im gonna take another stab at it tonight. I think Atreyu hit it. I chnged the name on the model_default.skin file like the tutorial says, but it doenst mention anything about opening the file with wordpad and changing anything. So I think that was the problem. I will let you guys know how it went later...
Ten Tigers
I just want to say thanks for all the help. It WAS the model_default.skin file. That crap tutorial said it would take me through step by step, but it did NOT say to open the model_default.skin file and change anything. It just said to rename it. My skin is far from done but I know it worked because it is showing up in the game now with the main color changes that I did. Does the world need another ninja skin? Probably not, but Im gonna share it anyways once Im done tweaking it...
