SaRGoNNaS
Im tryin to add music to an already created map. The files in the pk3 file do not appear in a format that radiant can edit. How would I be able to get into the .bsp file and tell it to look in the music directory i created for the song. Id really like to duel in ge_arena_x with duel of the fates playing! THanks! brigand1138
As far as I am aware, you can not edit .bsp files What you might be able to do though, is find out what music is played on that map, then find the mp3 file in the assets0.pk3 file, rename it to something else, then place the Duel of the Fates mp3 in there and rename that to what the previous file was. If that sounded confusing, I'll try and make it simpler xxxxxxx.mp3 = name of music file you want to replace Rename xxxxxxx.mp3 to something like xxxxxxxbackup.mp3 Insert duelofthefates.mp3 into same dir and rename to xxxxxxx.mp3 Not sure of that'll work, but it's worth a go, and you can always remove the file and rename the backup one to it's original name. SaRGoNNaS
thanks for the help...but as far as i know the ge_arena_x map does not contain any music..ge_arena_x is a map created by another user. It came in a .pk3 file already...i looked into its directory structure and there is no music directory, like some of the other custom made maps. Im sure they must have made these maps with something...its just that i cant turn the maps back into the .whatever file the created it in. Ive read about something called worldview...or something...im not sure how this works with this...but it might be something. Again thanks for your help! ~the SaRG
yrean
ok...find out who created it...im sure he reads this forum and ask him if hell put the music in for you.... as for why there is no music file in the .pk3....its because to save space alot of mappers use music from the game itslef...we use the worldspawn entity to point towards a music file that comes with the game... as far as the map is concerend.. you cannot edit a bsp... or convert it back to a map... The map file only the creator will have so he can change things....think about it this way....its art in a way...if you were da vinci and you made this great work of art...would you want someone to deface your painting because they didnt like it? or would you like your perception your art to stay your art because that is the way that you thought it should be? mapping is an art and should be veiwed as such... helpful critisicm is good but lets not go over the deep end here.. im sure the map is the way he wanted it otherwise he wouldnt have released it. I wasnt trying to be mean or offending...but you dont know how many times i hear on my server...can you make this like this...or do this or...etc... JumboMonkeyfish
Even if you could get into the bsp and change what music the map used, you would not be able to play the map anywhere but on your own comp. Why? Because yor bsp file would read differently than the server's bsp file, unless you released your music-ed version and got ur servers to run the map (unless u run ur own server). SaRGoNNaS
Well...if you have your server allow downloads...the map would redownload itself onto the clients comps....seems to be..and still is the only thing that seems to autodl..skins and mods do not. I understand what you were sayin....im an artist myself...and i would never want one of my works, to be defaced by anyone. I was just wanting to have the map play duel of the fates...as thats a great duel song...heh go figure right....i could just use a mp3 playing thing like winamp..but it uses less resources on everyones comp if the map played it itself. Anyway...i get what youre sayin...so i guess ill just stick with winamp thanks anyway guys
