Okay this might sound really newbie, but this is my frist map and i was wondering how do you compile a map, i go bsp -> Fullvis then it comes up with a dos menu and i quit out of that and then i seach the computer for mymap.bsp and its not there, i've also tryed to save as -> mymap.bsp and that comes up with a error in mp saying "rong version number should be ...... .....).

Compile it in the fullvis then wait for the dos window to close. That's a must. It'll take a few minutes depending on how you built the map, caulked it and whatnot. After it's done, close the editor and load up JK2. Shift +~ to open up the command console. From there, devmap <mapname>. If you saved the map right, it'll be there. You'll be able to run around and test it. It should be saving your map and the dependant files for it to the "maps" folder in the JK2 directory.

How do you know if the dos thing is working propley i dont think my one is. if i click out of it early then it says this,

==================

Running bsp command...

C:\PROGRA~1\LUCASA~1\STARWA~1\GameData\Tools\\sof2map -bsp C:\PROGRA~1\LUCASA~1\STARWA~1\GameData\\base/maps/room101.map

C:\PROGRA~1\LUCASA~1\STARWA~1\GameData\Tools\\sof2map -vis C:\PROGRA~1\LUCASA~1\STARWA~1\GameData\\base/maps/room101.map

C:\PROGRA~1\LUCASA~1\STARWA~1\GameData\Tools\\sof2map -light C:\PROGRA~1\LUCASA~1\STARWA~1\GameData\\base/maps/room101.map

C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars JK II Jedi Outcast\GameData\base\maps>C:\PROGRA~1\LUCASA~1\STARWA~1\GameData\Tools\\sof2map -bsp C:\PROGRA~1\LUCASA~1\STARWA~1\GameData\\base/maps/room101.map

completed.

Run time was 0 hours, 0 minutes and 9 seconds

if i dont then that dos prompt thing just stays there

if anyone could help me some more i would be

greatfull again

Thanks ThrawN

Yeah, happens to me too. I'm kinda new to Q3 mapping though.

I closed it early for my first map and it still came out fine. Don't know whether the lighting was done correctly, first map only had one light :)

Don't click out of it early. Let it run till it's done. If you close it, it's not compiled. It can take anywhere from a minute to over an hour to several hours depending on how you made the map. Turn it on, let it run, and don't get impatient. Out of curiosity, how many brushes and entities does your map contain?

Hi All,

For some reason in XP with JKradiant you must follow this two step method to compile a map.

Just before you compile save the map.

1) Select the type of compile... such as 'Fast Vis'

leave the Dos window open

2) Then select the same compile option (Fast Vis again)

Now check your console window and you will see it state

"BSP is still going"

Depending on your map complexity and processor a BSP compile could range from 10 seconds to 6 hours

Also in XP if you think the machine is locked up or the BSP process is not initated check 'Windows Task Manager' (ctrl-alt-del) and look under the performance tab. If the CPU usage is near 100% then your map is compiling.

I run an amd athlon 1800+ with a gig of DDR ram.... and im running xp...I have found the occasionall gliche....but i have no problem when i bsp, save, or do anything of that sort....Maybe try giving your computer longer to do its thing... if you open a dos window, and then you open another one...then you get not responding.....its cause you have you paging file working on the same thing twice and your computer will turn into an evil little box lock up and crash your work........

dont mind me im bored and sick of being bantha fodder
