aFireiNsiDe
hey guys, im one of the unfortunate 56kers out there who has no fun playing online. although i hope bots get improved through editing and modding, i still enjoy playing the ones JK2 came with. can you guys list for me the maps out now with bot support or if your creating a map can you mention weather or not it supports bots or not. its a bummer to download a 4 meg duel map and find out that all the bots do is constantly jump around and to their deaths. thanks sooo much! TuSKeN_RaiDeR
Well the only user-made map with bot support now is........ Sky High LINK: http://www.jediknightii.net/files/index.php?link=file&id=190 Enjoy, it's a pretty nice ffa map set in Cloud City!
Devilzad
If you count them running in place, it has bot support sure. I'm wondering how hard it is to add bot paths to existing map pk3's (so that I could conceivably add bot support for other users who made maps). I found a bot pathing doc on jk2ed.jediknightii.net. I wonder if you need radiant to add paths or you can just add them in the game's dev mode the doc describes?
TUX
Great question! I totally agree with you guys. If you figure out a way to do that (add bot routes to an existing pk3) please post it here. I too would be willing to add routes (assuming I can figure it out).
PurplWulf
you don't need radiant, just use the command line in the text to start up an mp game, and add the waypoints, then save it, it will generate a mapname.wnt file in the gamedata/base/botroutes folder and voila, you're done so you can add bot support to maps that you currently have even if the author didn't. however when I tried to add bot support to my map, it worked to an extent, the bots stopped jumping around like crazy, but the game crashed with an error message: Opstack corrupted in compiled code the only time I've had this problem is with the bot support while running bots, so I have no idea what it is, but it makes it useless for running bots in MP on my map. if anyone has any advice or fixes for this, I'd appreciate it. the purple one

Are you saying you can add them, but after you add them bots crash the game/level? Umm... if that's the case, obviously there's a better way. Could you please offer more of a step-by-step? I guess what I'd like to be able to do is convert someones pk3 to a bsp (which is in the unzipped pk3) and convert their bsp to a map. Is there any way to do this? PurplWulf
no, there's no decompilers that are compatible with JKII bsp files that I've found, but you don't need the map file to create the route files. the text released by Raven explains how to do bot support for multiplayer maps. just because I'm getting an error doesn't mean the bot support is at fault, or has a problems, it just means I'm having problems with the bots on my particular system. you can find the link for the text file for adding bots in the news section of JKII.net it has the command line needed to start the mp game with bot waypoint editing capabilities. the purple one
TUX
Doh! Thank you PurplWulf. I plan on trying this tonight and seeing what my results are. I'll post here if I have any success... or I'll rant here if I fail. I had seen the original article, but assumed it was meant for the SDK. Again, thanks! TUX
Alright, no luck. I can't seem to be able to enable bot edit mode. I'm not sure where I'm going wrong (and I have James Monroe's directions printed out in front of me). I've tried several 'user' made maps with no luck. I've added the command line to both a JK2 general shortcut (the standard) as well as to a shortcut directly to JK2_MP. I've typed the devmap blah_blah at the console also, but nothing. When I type bot_wp_add, I get a sound that sounds like an object respawning, but cannot see wp's. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be able to so I continued adding and adding. When I was done I typed bot_wp_save, exited and restarted JK2 and nothing. So then I added a bot to a ffa game and still nothing. Any suggestions PW? PurplWulf
open up notepad or wordpad and add this line: jk2mp.exe +set bot_wp_edit 1 +devmap yourmapnamehere then save the file as a .bat file instead of text. I named mine botroute.bat place that file in your Gamedata folder where the exe's for the game are located to start the game in bot editing mode, just double click that batch file and you should be good to go. when you add a waypoint, you'll see it's number disgnation floating up from the ground repeatedly. IE: the first waypoint will be waypoint 0, so you'll see a continuous line of zero's floating up from the ground at that location. when you save the route, it will create a file in your gamedata/base/botroutes folder, and that file will be yourmapname.wnt that is the file that allows the bots to navigate your level. TUX
Again PW, thank you for the info. I'll be trying it Saturday (can't tonight). If this works, I will forever worship the PurplWulf.
TUX
YES!!! Got it to work. Have a question though... How many wp's should I add? I realize the software added in nearly 150 additional wp's after I added 51 to the sithcatacombs map. Is more better or would I be better off with less (letting the software figure out placement)? My bots continued to get stuck trying to get to wp's that were not flagged j (jump points, although I added several to the map hoping to avoid this). I'm sure some of that is my fault for being new at this.
