Linksys BEFSR41 causing problems with server.

My server works if I bypass the router, so it must be causing the problem.

Any idea how to fix this error with a Linksys 41?

Nope,

I don't think it'll work behind a NAT device. Some programs simply don't (MSN Messenger for example), no matter what port range you forward.

I have a BEFSR41 myself, I feel your pain bro...

You could try upgrading your firmware (of the "router"), and then try using the DMZ...that's about all I can suggest.

I know I've already posted this a zillion times or so, but...

I have the BEFSR11 which, I believe, is identical to the BEFSR41 just without the extra ports. I am running the Ded. server with no problems.

You should not be setting Jedi Knight to the outside address of your Linksys router. For example, your server config should use whatever the computer's ip address is. If you are using the default linksys settings, that is 192.168.1.xxx.

I have the same router as you, and I'm not having any problems.

To connect to your server from another one of your machines that is behind the router, you should connect to the internal ip address listed above.

Everyone in the outside world will connect to your outside wan IP address.

Hope this helps...

Ok when I get my server running my client can't get a list of servers via the Internet. I can see my local server but sometimes I want to play elsewhere. When I have the server running on 28080 some people can't connect but I can get a list on my client. But when I run it on 28070 then people can connect to my server but my client can't see outside

so if my friend wants to connect to the Server im running behind the router....he should be using the IP being assigned by the Modem?

Yes, he would connect to your WAN (cable/DSL-assigned IP) address, not your LAN (192.168.1.xxx) address.

I've managed to run the DS fine using the BEFSR41 router. All I did was forward ports 28060 through 28081 to the computer running the server (192.168.1.3 in this case), using both TCP and UDP protocols (not just UDP). Apparently it works fine, because I had it up for a couple of hours and people were connecting to it that I did not even know (so it must have been showing up on the server list).

I did notice the client can't get the server list when you've got the server running on certain ports. The problem is, the client is trying to get the list through port 28070(?), but when the information gets sent back, the router forwards it to the server, not the client. Makes sense if you think about it. Unfortunate side-effect of running a dedicated server off of a $80 home router ;)

Mine works just by forwarding port 28070 on the Linksys to the internal IP address of the server machine. None of those other ports are forwarded. I don't have the net_ip command ANYWHERE. I can connect locally using the local IP, I can see all servers on the Internet, and everyone can see mine (and connect) on the Internet.

Firmware v. 1.40.2

I figured out a way to get both the client and the server to work at the same time. First my server is set to run on port 28070 and traffic on that port is forwarded to my server. So I just made a short cut to the mulitplayer exe file on my client and added a "+set net_port 28071" to the end of the command. Now everything works fine and I can get a master server list
