Ten Tigers Posted May 2, 2002 Share Posted May 2, 2002 I am currently using PS 6.0 and I was wondering if someone know and easy way to select skin parts once you open a file. Example: I was trying to skin the gloves on a reborn to make them fingerless gloves, but I could not tell where the fingers were. The black of the gloves blended in with the black of the background. ANY information at this point will be greatly appreciated. Please bear one thing in mind, I am a noob to Photoshop so please list any and all paths so I can use the info you share with me. Make the gloveless layer a little transparent and cut the picture so it will leave just the fingertips or whatever you want. Then remove the transparency and merge the layers together. Sounds like a good idea, but I still have a hard time telling whats a finger and whats a forearm on some of these.But from what I understand you would need a gloveless hand from the model you are trying to create. For example you couldnt use Jans hand to overlap a reborn. It wont fit the model. Besides, I want to go all the way with it. I want to be able to do custom torsos too. And the shadowtrooper for example would be an everloving bitch to skin for my current level of knowledge... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

brain21 Posted May 3, 2002 Share Posted May 3, 2002 OK, I haven't actually opened a skin yet, but SOMETIMES there are little tricks that you can use in photoshop. It may or may not work with the skins that you are talking about, but go ahead and try them... Take the layer with the skin on it and duplicate it. Now, select the copied layer and play around with the filters like "Find Edges" and the like. Try playing with the Adjust->levels filter, and adjust->brightness contrast, etc. The whole point is to make the lines more apparent on this new layer. Then when/if you can see the lines a little better, set that layers opacity to something low, and use it as a guide for creating your selections on the layer below. Once you have been able to do that, delete the filtered layer. Another trick is to find a skin that is basically the same as far as the hands (or problem) areas go. It doesn't have to be the exact same skin, just so long as the area that is hard to differentiate has better contrast in the other skin. Open both up, and copy the "other" skin on a new layer above the layer with the skin that you want to alter. Select the problematic are using the layer with the "other" skin, then simply switch layers in the layers palette to the one you want to alter, and hide the "other" skin layer from view so that you can see the layer that you are playing with. Again, once you get done what you need, delete the layer with the "other" skin & flatten & Save As. Good luck! Brain21 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
