Garland
Does anyone know how to put rain or snow into a level? I ask about snow, because it seems to have been put in, but not used. Can it work for an MP level? -Garland
Cmdr. Antilles
They're just shaders, so they will work for both sp and mp. They cut down a lot on FPS, however. I'm not sure where to find the shaders (try Yavin), but if they work like I think they do, you'll have to apply them to one face of a brush that is convered on all other sides with 'system/nodraw' Just screw around with that, and you should figure it out. Remember, only use shaders, denoted by the white outline in the texture preview window.
Garland
Thanke, don't worry, I did finally figure out shaders. Made a custom sky (not box) for my map. So that won't be a problem. I didn't know they were shaders though. ^^; I thought they were an entity of some sort that followed the player, but now I get it! Thanks -Garland
Cmdr. Antilles
Well, I haven't gotten to the raining levels yet (I've been too busy w/ Multi ), but that's how rain is done in most q3-based games...
Absath
its possible that it will work like fog...wherin you fill the entire area with the brush and apply a rain texture. problem is i havent seen a shader marked rain or snow yet.... -Abs
Garland
I -think- now it's an FX entity. But I'm still trying to figure it out. I'm reading the "Quake3 Enhancements Guide" and am trying to figure out how to use the commands in there. -Garland

Cmdr. Antilles
I think it's a shader that just scrolls a rain texture down. You would put a bunch of 'system/nodraw' brushes around the level, and put the rain shader on some of the faces of that brush... That's how I did it in one of my EF maps. It could very well be a jk2-only FX entity, though. I don't think you can make a shader for rain that works like fog, though.
Garland
So far it seems like it's an effect: fx_rain. A Single player only effect. Fun, huh? -Garland
Cmdr. Antilles
DOH! Hmm... Try putting it in a map, and see if it works in MP. It's worth a try. Otherwise, you can use the old shader way. I'll give you the image and shader if you want.
Garland
Already tried using it. (You can't select it in the MP_Entities, so I had to cheat a little. ) But yeah, that's about the jist of it. So you went so far as to actually make a shader for rain? Sure, I'd like it! Did you do snow, too? -Garland
